BATON ROUGE, La. -- Negotiations between the state and the Saints to keep the NFL team in New Orleans are ongoing, but one state senator wants to set some parameters. Namely, that the Saints won't get any money from state coffers as part of a deal.
Sen. Rob Marionneaux of Livonia has filed a bill for the upcoming legislative session that would bar the state from spending any money "for the benefit of any National Football League franchise." That should just about do it..... |

This stuff\'s been all over the TV and radio lately. It\'s typical, everyone seems to want the Saints to stay, but nobody wants to do anything to facilitate it.
The Saints sure don\'t seem to be too popular amongst the elected officials down here ... elected officials who are in turn becoming less popular with ME. |

I hope everyone is as tired of these so-called negotiations as I am. I hope they stay but if they don\'t I have already purchased a Chiefs, Jaguars, Ravens and Titans jersey\'s just in case. If the state is that stupid so be it. They need to pay attention to something whether it is the Saints, coastal errosion or crooked politicians, do something for pete\'s sake.

At least you didn\'t say the Falcons. If you would have said you got a Falcons jersey I would have had to slap you. :facesjump: I think I could cheer for the Jags and Cheifs. But I have to say I don\'t mind the Titans. Yeah I hope the State doesn\'t drop the ball. I know the whole situation sucks from both sides (I think the state is trying to web it\'s pockets/I also think the Saints are doing the same), but lets just hope something good happens so we can keep our Saints. |

Tom Benson has the biggest sweet-heart deal in the NFL. He\'d probably spend $5 million in \"campaign contributions\" to insure the a bill like this won\'t pass. It is a publicity stunt, as was mentioned. However, the number of \"up-state\" senators crying about the Saints is getting alarming.

The best thing to do at this point would be to hope for the best, but start to get some new favorite teams in mind. I am moving to Seattle soon, but I don\'t think I\'ll be a Seahawks fan. Two possiblities are the Ravens and the Colts.
If Louisiana lets the Saints go I will never forgive the state. |

I\'m just courious as to when you guys feel that the State actually should tell Tom Benson that the deal\'s he\'s got (probably the best in the league) is enough and he\'s not getting anymore. The Saints are in one of the four SMALLEST market\'s in the league, but manage to have net revenues that rank in the top 12 and net operating profit that ranks them 8th. That means there are 24 \"larger market\" teams that make less money - yet Benson is threatening to take his team to a place with a proven track record of NOT supporting teams and you guys think the tax payers of the State should shake in fear and give him what he wants?
C\'mon guys, nobody wants the Saints to leave. But I think the State has done an awful lot already. That\'s not to say that they shouldn\'t compromise. They do need to renovate the Dome so that New Orleans can host more Super Bowls. They\'ve already said that they would do that though. Beyond that, it\'s BENSON who needs to lay off the crack and stop demanding free money. Anybody think that Benson would be OK if the State said that it was having a hard time developing/attracting new corporations so in order to do so it would like the Saints to pay them an extra $15 MM a year for the privilege of being in the State? |
\"Excuses, excuses, excuses. That’s all anyone ever makes for the New Orleans Saints’ organization.\" - Eric Narcisse
