This will leave a big hole in the dline and glad they caught it before he dropped dead on the field.

Wow... I don't know what to say. I'm just hoping the big guy is doing ok before I even think about depth chart ramifications. Hope we hear more details soon.

Hard to believe this was not caught before resigning him. Wish him the best for sure but man, seems like he had to know about this for a while.

Hope he's alright... let us wait and see before we jump to conclusions.

There is something seriously wrong with whatever dept is in charge of player's health for the Saints.

All the best, Nick. Really tough stretch for the big man. The Lord can do anything though, so I'm going to hope for the best.

Teammates haven't been able to get a hold of him. Wonder if he's really having to ponder hanging 'em up for good.

Firstly, Mr. Fairly, no one will blame you for deciding your life is more important than a pro-career. God Luck and God Bless.

Secondly, how was this not caught in his college career or his previous NFL seasons?

Possibly an atrial septal defect or patent foramen ovale? If so, there's hope.

I am ashamed that my first thoughts were how this would affect our defense. I will keep Fairley in my prayers. Hopefully this is something treatable.Early detection is always helpful .

Obviously the most important thing here is his long term health.

But if he retired that leaves his guaranteed money on the books still?

Sounds like this might be over blown, lets hear what the docs have to say first, but apparently he has been playing with it forever.

Hope the docs and medical experts can get to the bottom of it and they can make the right decision.

It sounds like it is just precautionary testing. A full series of tests would take several days. Since it is a known. pre-existing condition I am sure he's been through this before.

WTF? We all hope this stuff isn't true. Why does it seem like it only happens to us? We're the Saints for Gods Sake. We should have Angels in the locker room or on our shoulder or you get the point!

Re: Fairley has possible career ending heart condition

Whether you're a fan of Fairley being signed long-term or not, am sure all hope for the best in his long-term health...

But this does seem to be another in a long line of questionable "missed" diagnosed evaluations that should have happened sooner...

In the case of Fairley, it should've happened prior to a long-term contract where it's starting to look as if Loomis has bid against himself and over-paid prematurely for a player...

I have a real time accepting that this condition only manifested in less than his being signed less than ninety (90) days (days) ago...

Gotta believe this is an extension of having an owner who's having his diapers changed and being virtually cuckold by his golddigger...

This is when we could use a slightly younger more active owner should say "Okay, Mickey, Sean, WTF?!? Why haven't we fired these Docs and secured a more reliable source of medical opinion than these quacks at Ochsner?!? WTH is going on that we keep getting straddled with poor medical opinion and making these decisions?"

Not that I don't have empathy for Fairley, I do. But I'm also a Saints fan who's invested and am getting tired of this recurring bad decision with bad information "process" by Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis...

They knew about it... So did Detroit when they drafted him. He's been playing with it all along. Either this is a click bait article or his situation has worsened. If the latter, then yes, JP, the docs are wholeheartedly culpable.

It's pretty rare Jen Hale gets to break a story like this so she probably went way overboard with the "life threatening" severity of it.

I have a feeling you are correct. Apparently the condition was common knowledge.

Re: Fairley has possible career ending heart condition

Read three articles on this, and there is nothing substantial in any of them. Fairley isn't at OTA's likely because of the heart, but no one is saying anything.
As for the clickbait headline, is a heart condition career threatening? Ah, yeah...it's actually life threatening
the questions:
can he play in his current condition?
has something changed drastically in the last few days?
and, why hasn't the team issued a statement?

well it is not click bait the dude hasn't been at OTA's and the players can't get a hold of him. I'd say something is wrong. Hopefully they get it resolved now and he is healthy for camp/season

Me too.........selfishness first. But hey, it was a fleeting thought before we thought about the human being and not the player or product on the field. I hope this is more hype than fact.

It is all fact, yet all hype, as well. More meaningless off-season hype.

Sad to hear.

That said, we have four players that can start at DT.

True, the exact same fear could have been posted every year of his career.

Try doing something new and doing a little research. Or try reading what people that know what they are talking about post here if you are too lazy. Geez.
