I'd guess everyone is happy as it.
No rush, once the final rosters there everyone knows what caps there amd the best way to structure his deal. It'll be a pretty decent chunk of change too imo |

Re: Willie Snead optimistic and hopeful that he signs long-term deal with Saints before season
This is from 2016 but it still applies. The only difference for 2017 is the amount which is now $615K.
Exclusive rights free agents (ERFAs) These are players whose contract have expired before they've complete three "accrued seasons." These are mostly undrafted free agents, practice squad players and young players that were picked up midseason. ERFAs cannot negotiate with other teams. They have one option: accept the $600,000 one-year tender from the team they played for that season -- if it offers one. In this instance, the teams have all the control. ERFAs can't test the market, but they can try to talk a team into signing them long-term, but there's often little incentive to do so. |

It was either that or sit out the season. I hope they're getting him a more deserving contract before the season tho.

Re: Willie Snead optimistic and hopeful that he signs long-term deal with Saints before season
He's a good, complimentary guy. But, his value is just not that great for the Saints. He's popular now because of his coming out of nowhere and making some plays. If you paid him $5 million a year, he would be viewed with a lot less friendly eye. Why? Perception and reality. He's just not THAT valuable to the team. Next man up. The reality of the NFL.

Name the "next man up" that can match the play he has proven to date. Brandon Coleman is the "next man" and he hasn't come close. |
