What kind of deal are we looking at here? 4 years/$20 mil with around half of that guaranteed?

The numbers discussed on the extension should be interesting...

Saints let him play it out this season, then evaluate the market and the draft next year...

Right now, I'd say it's 60-40 he walks after next season...

Surprise! You're wrong. He is contracted through the 2017 season at a base salary of $615K.

Spotrac - Willie Snead

I love looking at overthecap, can always find the cap we are losing from stupid moves. Still paying Browner, solid move

You are right. That would have never happened if Jeff Ireland would have been around back then. Thanks for pointing out how much better the front office is today and how we can look forward favorably to the future!

I hope we can, I really do because this is still the present since we are still paying him. I can't look at it as in the past yet until his money is off the books. We are presently paying BB money :(

... for a mistake that was made in the past and is more than likely not going to happen in the future. They could have made matters worse by keeping him on while paying him base salary and roster bonuses over his guarantees. That would have eaten up more cap PLUS it would have wasted a roster spot with a penalty machine. As an alternative, I LOVE seeing that Browner "dead money" on the books.

Now, we know where Snead gets his blonde hair!

Looks like a happy family found their Ambassador of Kwan, the real-life Jerry Maguire...

Kinda makes you feel good that another 3X cast-off UDFA, finds gold with the Saints...

Maybe he breaks this jinx on recent Loomis Free Agent signings?!? Fingers Crossed!!!

Pat Kirwan talked about this very scenario yesterday on Movin' the Chains on NFL Radio. He said it is very common that players get frustrated with their agents trying to get so much out of a deal that they begin to lose track of what the player actually wants. At that point other agents start approaching the player and the player fires his agent to get the ball moving again.

Snead compares favorably to Colston. We can't guarantee a draft pick will produce and Thomas is the only receiver due a large contract. The man deserves to be paid. So pay the man.

Don't believe NFLPA rules allow other agents to contact players while in an existing agreement with an agent...

But I do believe a player may know what's best overall for him and it may be 8.5% less in a total deal, but factoring taxes, local name status and recognition, proximity to family, family being happy in an area, other opportunities, you're definitely right that all that is a factor...

Lance Moore just disappeared once he left NO; sometimes "the right fit" & "overall happiness" is everything...

Kirwan said it happens all the time. He said it is very common. It might not be "allowed under the rules" but players change agents much more often than we would expect, according to Kirwan. I would think that as long as the player says it was he who originated the contact there isn't much the NFLPA can do about it.

Oh, no question they change agents; it's just that agents are not supposed to initiate solicitation, nor courting of contracted players...

But Snead is having his Tidwell moment and have Rosenhaus should give him some comfort, for what that's worth...

I agree they're not "supposed to", but Kirwan said they actually do (my addition here) and as long as the players claim to have made first contact nothing can be done about it. Kirwan never said that part, but Occam's Razor. That's what I love about listening to Pat Kirwan. He holds nothing back and tells all about what happens behind the scenes in front office dealings. Very interesting man.

ProFootball Focus: The Secret Superstars on Every NFL Roster

WR Willie Snead

2016 snaps: 744

Key stat: Caught 75.0 percent of passes thrown his way, the 14th-best mark among WRs leaguewide.

Snead may be stretching the definition of secret, but such are the options on the New Orleans roster. Snead is a solid slot weapon for the Saints, who has reliable hands but can also flash ability after the catch, forcing 10 missed tackles once he caught the ball and averaging 5.4 yards after the catch.

Love Snead. But every time I see Jarvis Landry I think we should've drafted him in the 2nd instead of CB SJB (CB with length but little else)

Snead signed a one year $615K deal back in March. If nothing is done on a future contract he'll become a RFA for 2018.

Did Snead sign the RFA tender from the Saints in March? Coleman and Lampman signed their tenders...

My understanding was that he is participating in the OTAs without signing and is trying to get his extension...

If you have the article or tweet, please post as I missed that nugget...
