While I would rather have seen him available, once again we have both time and depth to fall back upon. Even without Fairley I expect the defensive line will be better than what was fielded last season. Rankins will be there the full season and will be another year more seasoned. We've added a veteran in McDaniel and have three young guys coming on strong, Onyemata, Davison and Zimmer.

Add in the clear improvements with the LB and DB corps and we shouldn't really miss a beat.

Can we point the finger at someone here? Seems to me this is a big mistake someone in our front office needs to be accountable for. How on earth do you sign someone who already has an enlarged heart, to a long-term deal? Hell, how is he NOT getting physicals more often than anyone based on his pre existing condition alone???

I wish nothing but the best for Fairly, my frustration isn't pointed at him at all. But how does this even happen???!!!

He's had the condition his whole career. It was known by all parties. He was checked out prior to his signing and things were obviously no different than previously. Something must have changed in those few months since he signed and the exams at OTA's.

I guess you can point your finger at God because only he could have predicted the change in Fairley's condition.

My thing is there are people on here pointing to the fact that we are better without him, so if that is the case then there was literally no reason to sign him to the large contract

Yeah man his health is what matters, no doubt about that, but yeah another kick in the teeth

And exactly how could that have been foreseen by the front office? Every new contract is accompanied by a physical, especially if there was already a condition which was a known factor by all parties? And I don't see this standing in the way of our second Lombardi. One small piece. The drop off from Fairley to the next man up isn't that great in the scheme of things.

definitely, front office holds some responsibility.

And if people want to claim we are better without him then there was no reason to sign him in the first place. Either way it comes back to the front office.

Nobody has said we are better without him. But we can absorb the loss much easier with the vast improvements with LB's and DB's.

As I pointed out earlier, only the good Lord could have known that something new would arise after many years of the known existence of the condition.
