Jimmy Garoppolo Saint?

Just entertaining the idea but I could totally see it. Brees moves on or retires and our Mardi Gras tail feathers do enough to lure Jimmy our way.

Fairly sound QB although nobody has had any success with Pat QB castoffs. They seem to work in a system but we have a system that is built around that position so why not?

Again? Mother of Mary Magdeline! I was not privy to this previous conversation. Guilty as charged. Crucify me (forgive them they know not what they do Payton).

I think Garoppolo would be a little old in the tooth by the time Brees retires.

26? Brees was about the same age. Under that reasoning we pass on Brees and that is without a severe unproven shoulder injury.

Brees may be five or six years from retiring. Garappolo hasn't proven crap. Where will he be when Brees retires? My money is on Brees being the starting Saint QB after Garappolo gets cut.

Naw, Roger will make another rule change in 2 years where teams have to rotate quarterbacks every game to cut down on injuries.

Beast, it's all good, you're all good...

If you don't get your balls busted around here occasionally, then you're doing something wrong...

I will make this statement in the form of logical argument

If a younger, cheaper Jimmy Garoppolo were as good as Tom Brady...

And if Belichick puts the Patriots' winning above everything else...

Then Belichick would have let Brady walk in FA and promoted Jimmy Garoppolo...

Just as 49ers HC Bill Walsh let HOFer Joe Montana walk for Steve Young...

Re: Jimmy Garoppolo Saint?

They could have cashed him out this year and hit pay dirt so he's likely the real deal. They are getting nothing after this season.

I'd like to see Drew play another four or five years......realistically though I would feel great with two or three more years while Drew leads the team.

I think I remember him saying something about wanting his children all to old enough to get to see him play and be able to understand what is going on. That would take another five years, at least. I think that's probably where his wanting to play well into his forties comes from. And don't forget, Brees is all about family. Another reason why he wants to retire as a Saint when he does hang it up. I really can't see him uprooting his four kids who have all lived their entire lives in New Orleans and moving them to some strange city. It ain't going to happen.

No one wants to miss out on the next Hall of Fame QB. It causes desperation.

Unless you already have one as your starter.

Exactly. But he's assuming brees will be here for 5 more years.

Honestly Brees could retire next year and I wouldn't care as long as someone just as good or had just as high of a ceiling stepped in. Meaning if Drews play dropped off I would happily see him walk for a younger player that performs at the same level of that drop off but shows potential. I want Super Bowls. Not how long our favorite player can play bowls.

But that's the whole point. Finding someone as good as Brees or having as high a ceiling may take another 25 years. If it was that easy every team would have one. As it stands right now, at most only 3 or 4 have one. Brees is, and most likely will remain, our only hope at ever winning another Super Bowl.

B.S. within 2-3 years drews play will drop off to where he is an average to good QB. You find someone equally as average or good who is younger with an upside. No point in keeping Brees around if he is performing at an average level.

People have been saying his play was about to drop off for the past four years. If he says he can play at a high level well into his forties I am far more inclined to believe him than you. And even a Brees 70% of what he is today would be better than anyone available. Right now half the teams in the league would kill for an average NFL QB. Two thirds would kill for a QB 70% of what Brees is today. You seem to think it will be no problem finding a replacement for Brees.

:dunce:

What makes you think in 2-3 years Drew will be average?

Hell; look at Favre... He wasn't average at 40, except for throwing bone-headed interceptions but he always did that...

Do you think Brady will be average in 2-3 years?

Out of the top ten QB's last season Drew is ranked 9th in interceptions. Only person behind him is Jamie Winston, a rookie. For a HOF QB that is a fairly disturbing fact. If that happens again I want a new QB. Not going to win a lot of games if that number is mid to plus teens.

This type of question is something I question this board on? It's better to ask questions on this than be negative or point out serious facts?

Every other year his ints go down from the previous season. That year is due. Still he throws more ints than the other top QBs and the excuse so far is he doesn't have short fields.

He also threw for 5200 yards. I mean the law of averages is gonna get you. If he's throwing the ball as much as he did, he's gonna have more pics. I agree there were a couple stupid ones, but how many bounced off WRs hands? Idk. His pics don't bother me as much as the defenses lack of ability to create turnovers and force punts.

Have you ever heard of pass to interception ratio? Brees had 15 interceptions in 673 attempts for an pass/interception ratio of 48.5:1! That is actually pretty awesome. Factor in that he was forced to pass into tiny windows frequently because of the defensive failures and opposing defenses expecting the pass and it is even more amazing.

His number of interceptions would only be disturbing if you didn't understand the metrics involved.

I wanna see how he does with a serious threat of a run game, or with a serious dump off option in Kamara...

I understand that if you have a lot of turnovers you won't be going to the playoffs. If that number does not come down we are spinning wheels here. I'm not bashing him either just saying that some of the throws are not needed.

Sky's the limit. I have lived and closely followed through all 51 years of Saints QB's, and pardon me Archie, but none have held a candle to what Brees can do today. If anyone thinks that we can easily replace even a lessor version of him anytime soon, they are a fool.
