Is Brees going to Tomlinson's induction? Because neither Rivers or Gates can :)

Report: Chargers tell Rivers, Gates not to go to Tomlinson ceremony | ProFootballTalk

I get that this Saturday practice is the first open practice in the Chargers' new home, but not letting your 2 star players go to a once-in-a-lifetime event for their teammate, that is just short sided. No football fan will resent not seeing those 2 at one practice because they attended Tomlinson's induction, and surely the new coach is not making any fans in the locker room.

Besides, what can he possibly do to enforce this? Bench them? Cut them?

On a side note, as good as Tomlinson was, I will never refer to him as LT. There 's only 1 LT. And get off my lawn.

I hope he gets the opportunity to. That sounds really really stupid even by Charger standards.

I blame the NFL. Maybe they actually should have the HOF presentation before camps open. Seriously, a 6-month off-season and this is best they can do? The act of whoring out the first preseason game during the HOF event weekend is getting *old*.

The Chargers are not preventing Rivers and Gates from attending. Rivers said he decided not to go and that his place is with his team at their dual practice with the Rams. Once again, this was the press putting something false out there based upon supposition only and a lazy public for not researching it more on their own.

"I've talked to Philip. I've talked to Antonio. I've even talked to LT. We're all on the same page," Lynn said. " At the end of the day, we're going to make the best decision for our football team, and that's it."

With the practice taking place at the same time as the Hall of Fame ceremony in Canton, Ohio, Rivers and Gates would be unable attend both. Another one of Tomlinson's teammates, Drew Brees, plans to fly to the enshrinement after the New Orleans Saints’ practice, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

What makes it false? And thank you for calling me "lazy public". Always a pleasure talking to you.

Look, the reality is, neither you nor I knows exactly what was said or the time line of what was said and when. We have a report that says they were being blocked from going, then we have and update in the original article (an update which I read before posting this, BTW)in which the coach says he "talked to them", and according to you, apparently some alleged retractions by Rivers.

Do you know for a fact that Lynn never told Rivers or Gates "you can't go"?
Of course you don't.

Could it be there is some spin after the fact by Lynn to make it sound like a joint decision to save face?
Of course it could.

Could it be someone overheard something out of context?
Of course it could.

Could it be someone made the whole thing up?
Sure.

In the end, if you don't know for a fact what was said, you don't get to shriek "fake news" and be condescending to people.

Sorry that you counted yourself among the lazy public.

But, I believe what Rivers said himself and Gates is still considering going to the ceremony.

Anthony Lynn: I haven’t blocked anyone from going to Tomlinson ceremony

Quote:

A report from Alex Marvez of Sporting News on Monday indicated that Chargers coach Anthony Lynn told quarterback Philip Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates that they had to be at Saturday’s training camp practice rather than travel to Canton to see former teammate LaDainian Tomlinson inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Lynn disputed that report later in the day. He said he has not blocked any player from going and that final decisions are still pending.

“I’ve talked to Philip. I’ve talked to Antonio. I’ve even talked to LT. We’re all on the same page,” Lynn said, via USA Today. “At the end of the day, we’re going to make the best decision for our football team, and that’s it.”

Per Marvez’s initial report, Gates is still considering going to see Tomlinson but Rivers told Alex Flanagan of NFL Media that he will not go to Canton.

Rivers said that it was his choice rather than Lynn blocking him from going, although Lynn did say he wanted Rivers to be at Saturday’s session. The practice is being held at the StubHub Center, which will be the Chargers’ home for a few years, and is a joint session with the Rams, who will be joining them in a forthcoming stadium.
The whole point I was making is that the majority of the public read one headline and take it as fact without doing a little research on their own to find out the truth. That is being lazy.

I heard Rivers say himself the decision was all his on NFL Radio. I also knew he said the same thing to Alex Flanagan personally.

Once again, I was NOT being condescending, but was simply pointing out the facts. If you choose to lump yourself in with the lazy public that's your problem, not mine.

He's talking Chargers but used Brees I guess as a tie in to this forum.

Yeah I heard LT squash those rumors this morning. We all need to go back to 3rd grade; where the teacher tells one student something and that student passes the message on to another student, who does the same thing. And so on and so forth. By the time the last student gets the message it's totally distorted.

Take that and apply it to pretty much everything you hear or read from the media. Chances are pretty good you should take what you hear with a grain of salt.

I love how today's media cites "sources," but when you track down those sources they end up being other media sources and usually opinion-based bloggers. Of course, that can be blamed completely upon social media. Back when I was "in the media" nobody published anything without absolute verification from at least two sources that did not include another media outlet or one source that agrees to be quoted in the report.

Times have changed, both for the best and the worst. News is disseminated far more quickly, which can be good, yet far too often, in a rush to be the first, incorrect information hits the "wire" without any proper vetting.

:disgusted:

Antonio Gates on NFL Network just now verified he is definitely going to the ceremony and that he had the coach's blessings.

He needs to report to work like everyone else and get the team unity down.

Which he? Brees is flying right after practice and returning right away. He will not miss any team time. Gates said pretty much the same thing.
