Who'll be our #2 CB?
I was looking over the updated roster (minus Ambrose), and started wondering (again) who'll be our #2 corner going into this season.
Obvously McKenzie stays at #1, but the #2 spot looks wide open - and not terribly encouraging. The candidates are: Fakhir Brown Jason Craft Fred Thomas * Dwight Smith can also play corner Brown played pretty well toward the end of last season and probably deserves a shot at the starting job. Craft - who once started with the Jaguars - signed a four-year deal earlier this offseason, which may signify that the Saints believe he's finally ready to start. Thomas simply doesn't seem to have it anymore and - if retained - is probably better suited for special teams and extra DB sets. Smith can play corner, but one wonders if he wouldn't be better utilized at safety (especially now that Tebucky Jones is gone). My gut tells me Fakhir Brown will get the job. What do you guys think? Also, is it possible the Saints will finally address the CB position in the draft? |

I really like Craft as a nickle corner, and he\'s a great contributor on special teams (remember who caused that fumble vs. the Raiders when Bockwoldt got his TD?), but the Saints really haven\'t given him many opportunities to prove himself as the #2 corner. By all rights he should be ready to take over by now ... don\'t know what the problem is.
One thing\'s for sure, we\'d better hope everyone stays healthy or we\'re gonna be hurting in the secondary, especially at CB. [Edited on 2/4/2005 by mutineer10] |

Don\'t be surprised if this is our first pick in the draft. You know the Saint\'s usually pick someone that you would never expect.

Ok, seriously, I\'d put my money on Brown. He looked pretty good in a couple of games, and I think he\'s got the tools. I notice that Andre Dyson is still available, perhaps his price will be bottoming out soon? Also, I wouldn\'t be surprised if we drafted a CB, but I doubt it will be one of the top three. Does anyone think Webster would start over Brown if we got him in the third? I think there is a chance we get him. PS - I like Buchannon better than Woodson anyway... |

Craft was on his way to starting last year and spained his ankle, Brown played pretty good but i dont think he\'s a #2. (Both are decent #2\'s or killer nickle/dime backs) . I think we might get a CB in the draft but he\'ll be a young development type. So if we get PB or Woodson they would be #2 if not Craft, unless FT returns to his old self.

Hopefully, it will be one of the Raiders\' starters, either will do. If not, then I think Fahkir gets the nod. He started last season, he has gotten better every year, he\'s a small school guy with a chip and though he is less talented, he keeps proving himself time and again. I\'d love to see Craft be the guy the Saints though (or maybe hoped is a better term) they were getting, but I just haven\'t seen it. People keep talking about all this talent he is supposed to have. I haven\'t seen much out of him that has me all that impressed. Maybe that will change. I hope so.

There are always a few player/player trades that go down on draft day. I think we will get a late round pick in addition to PB
