Turley wants to play Defense
-- Turley Wants to Play Defense --
Sun Apr 3, 2005 --from FFMastermind.com The San Diego Union-Tribune reports St. Louis Rams OT Kyle Turley is planning a switch to defensive end this year – a position he hasn't played since high school – as long he can pass a physical exam and resume working relations with a head coach he won't forgive. Turley, a former standout at San Diego State, wants to switch to defensive end to relieve pressure on his back, a subject of controversy and much physical stress for Turley since December. Turley suffered from a herniated disc in preseason training camp and missed the entire 2004 season. "I need to play a position where I have more freedom to move around and get out of problem situations," Turley said yesterday by phone. "My back was injured on pass plays (on offense)." Turley said Rams GM Charlie Armey and operations chief Jay Zygmunt have given him the "we'll see" answer to his switch request. A call to the Rams office seeking comment was not immediately returned last night. In the last three months, Turley's weight dipped to 235 for the first time since his freshman year at SDSU. After working out in Tempe, Ariz., he has it back up to 260 – with a target of 275. He was once up to 309. As a result, he said, he's going to be faster than ever and is feeling great about extending his career. |

Turley wants to play Defense
People probably won\'t like what this will suggest, but i think the better question, and a question I\'ve had ever since I read Turley\'s bio a few years ago is how do you explain a guy going from 235 (I think it may have been even lower in the bio I read) and in just a couple of years get up to 300. His claim was that he did it with hard work and ingesting 1 gram of a protein blend per pound of his body weight per day. From the time I read this I was skeptical. I know by now many of you may think, here goes another steroid cry, which has recently been a major focus in professional sports. I certainly don\'t want to start rumors or start a what members of the New Orleans Saints are on steroids thread, so please don\'t let it turn into that or blame me if it does.
However, in this case i think it has to be a consideration. It has always amazed me that a guy can come in and put on 25 or 30 pounds of muscle in a short time when he comes into the league and I have always been skeptical about it. Then again, maybe Turley did it all with hard work and legal supplements, in which case his body may just not be designed to handle that much weight, leading to injuries. For those who are wondering where the bio came from: Anyone who goes to a smoothie king has seen the card board cut outs of Kyle Turley backing Smootie King\'s Gladiator Smoothie. When the product first came out, there were brochures describing Turley\'s use of this particular protien blend to help add more than 70 pounds of muscle in a few years. |

i don\'t think that he took steriods, although he did have some pattern behavior... in my own experience, i didn\'t put on weight but i did go from benching 190 to benching 285 in 6 wks. using tribulus terrestris, or tribestan, which is sold over the counter in pretty much any pharmacy
