Guido is right on target. There are about 12-15 players that can effectively play the NFL QB position. With increasing salary caps and required spending minimums, it's a no brainer to spend the money when an organization has one of the 12. Those that don't keep drafting hoping to find one. And when they get one (Winston and Mariotta for example), when their turn comes up, they'll get the money too. Only Washington has avoided making the committment. But they are being dumb. They could have locked Cousins up at $24 million/year for a while. But they've paid him $45 million for two years, and will have to pay him $35 million next year to franchise him again. And he'll still get to walk and get a $30 million average from Washington or someone else afterwards. That's why the contracts are so huge. There are 15-20 teams out there that would love to make a free agent splash by bringing in a top level starting QB. Cleveland has started nearly 20 different QBs since Stafford was drafted into the league. When you have a franchise QB, do whatever it takes to keep him. SFIAH |

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |
