ESPN Is Dumb

They've got Atlanta, Carolina, and Tampa going 11-5.

They've got us going 8-8.

They're dumb.

Good.

We'll fly under the radar all year, then beat em up with a ugly stick come playoffs.

Yeah, they don't really do much research. They just predict whatever happened last year will happen again this year. Most of the time, that works out so they feel they've actually accomplished something. This time last year, none of them were picking the dirty birds and the year before, they were saying Carolina was just an average team in a bad division.

Newton and Ryan struggle with short passing which both will be doing a lot more of this year. No Ginn and Julio is getting old. Going to be two train wrecks.

Hey its the birds. Who cares what people say about them?! Lol! I heard Julio is fat too. And stupid. And that he has a fetish with gerbils.

28.7 years old. He's getting old. This time next year right at 30. That is old for a WR1.

I'd like to say that Julio is getting old, but unfortunately nothing about his play is indicating that he is there, yet. WR's don't generally break down that fast.

Julio Jones? Arguably the best WR in the league. He's got at least another 5 years of dominance in him.

On ESPN: I only watch for MNF and tennis, but recently they've been playing 90% women's matches, not even TRYING to downplay the feminist agenda, and frankly it's repulsive how political they've become.

Hope they bring Disney down to the point that they have to pull the plug on it

Hagan,

It isn't hate. It's indifference. To ESPN the NFL is about a 12-14 team league:

1. Northeast teams. It's amazing how much coverage the Jets get.
2. Dallas
3. Last's years final 4.

That's about it. All other teams, including the Saints, are "the rest." like Gilligan's Island. The Saints only have the opportunity to be in category three, and they haven't been there since 2010.

It's not worth worrying about. Six or seven weeks in leading the NFC South will get the talking heads talking.

That's what you get for watching it for anything other than actual games. Even doing that you still sometimes have to mute it though.

Chad Johnson had knee injuries, Andre Johnson was about 31 before he slowed down, not 28. Calvin had some kind of injury that wouldn't go away, and apparently was sick of the Lions, so he just walked away. Jerry Rice and Tim Brown were productive into their late thirties, and even early 40's for Jerry. Steve Smith played forever, and as much as I didn't care for his attitude, he stayed quite productive. Randy Moss was dominant (whenever he wanted to be) for about 11 years. If receivers stay healthy, they don't get "old" at 28. RB's do. Now, everyone slows down around 30, but when you're talking about the elite receivers, they don't usually fall off a cliff at that age. Julio isn't showing any signs of slowing down, so to say he's going to suddenly get old this year is rather nonsensical, in my opinion.

He's closer to 29. He will start showing signs this year. Next year really start showing it. The body starts breaking down at 26. Gradual process but 29 very noticeable. What makes him great is the speed. Once that is gone lights out which will be next year but his numbers will fall this year. Good receiver but the party is over with. Should have an ok season though. He won't be WR1 next year I know that much.

Well if you wanna be technical about it, we start dying from the moment we are born. It really doesn't matter how old he is (he's basically 28 and a half) if the signs aren't there that he's slowing down. Yes, one day that will happen to him, but he has been extremely productive and not shown any signs of obvious physical breakdown. So, with that in mind, I don't expect to see anything different from him this year. A couple of years from now, maybe.

In other words, there won't be nearly enough of a difference (barring injury) for his age to be a worthy discussion in how the Falcons season will play out. Is he going to go from 1400 yards last year (in 14 games) to 900 yards this year? I just don't think it's relevant to talk about his age until his play diminishes.

I'm sick of ESPN and their political agendas. Who the **** wants to watch some gawdy black girl with nine inch nails try to act knowledgeable about football? Not me. The anal cysts(analysts) on ESPN don't have any type of spark of life.

Who the **** wants to watch a panel of two women (one is always black) and two boring men who may not have ever played football ether but act like they know everything?

I eventually get to watch about three informative minutes after fast forwarding through all the fluff material waiting on real football talk. I don't want to hear about Kaepernick........I hate that I even know how to spell his name. Aaarrrrggghhhh............. :argue:

Rice, Brown, Moss, you're talking about three receivers in over thirty-five plus years...

And as awesome as Julio Jones can be, he's disappeared in games at times as well...

You mentioned injuries on some players and those injures shorten careers...

Besides the butt hurt of losing a Superbowl, and a six-figured diamond this off-season, Jones has been oft-injured in his career...

It's 50-50, at best, Jones plays past 30...

I mentioned 4, actually, and you mentioned 3... Did you want us both to sit here and name every single player that has played past 30, or fallen short? Because the players named don't represent the entire list, my friend.

You said that the injuries I mentioned shorten careers. Yeah. That was my point. When you are evaluating the longevity of players by position, major knee injuries aren't part of that process. Any player can have his career ended early with a bad enough injury. When you're talking about elite players, they are athletically gifted and tend to last longer than most, provided they don't have major injuries derailing them.

Julio hasn't had anything truly major, and has only had one season where he missed significant time, when he had some kind of foot fracture. Bones heal a lot better than tendons. The fact is that he's not showing any signs of slowing down. We all know that day will come, but some folks seem to think the end is imminent for him, and to me that's just the Falcon disdain talking.

Yes, he disappears sometimes. Who doesn't anymore? He shows up enough, to me, and that's a different discussion from whether or not someone is getting old.

Isn't NFL Nation local beat writers? Which means our own beat writer picked us to go 8-8?

Atlanta is good. Offensive play makers. Defensive intensity and speed. Carolina and Scam will struggle. TB is everybody's darling and they will be average at best.

Yes, I stand corrected. David Newton did the picks for Carolina's season. They do one in April when the schedule comes out and before the season. Newton is Charlotte's beat writer.

That means Triplette picked us to go 8-8.

Yeah, he said that right in the article.

"And since I predicted the Saints to finish 9-7 back in April, they've lost defensive tackle Nick Fairley for the season because of a heart issue, and offensive tackle Terron Armstead and cornerback Delvin Breaux for at least the first month or so.

As a result, I've revised my season prediction to 8-8.

Point is it's no big deal. For instance, Newton did not say Atlanta and TB were going 11-5.

Point is who the hell is Newton and what indicators do we have that he can actually tie his own shoes?
