Saints claim Austin Carr, Taysom Hill off waivers
 

The New Orleans Saints churned the roster Sunday through the waiver process, a day after setting the initial 53-man roster.

The Saints claimed wide receiver Austin Carr and quarterback Taysom Hill off waivers, according to sources familiar with the transactions.

Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network first reported the news.

Carr, whom the New England Patriots waived Saturday as part of the roster trimmings around the league, entered the league in May as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Carr led the Patriots in receiving during preseason action, totaling 153 yards receiving and two touchdowns on 14 catches.

Carr will bolster depth for a Saints wide receiver corps without Willie Snead, who is suspended for the first three games of the regular season.

Hill, whom the Green Bay Packers waived Saturday, entered the league in May as an undrafted free agent out of BYU.

The 6-foot-2, 221-pound Hill completed 14 of 20 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns in preseason action, adding 71 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.

Hill's arrival gives the Saints three quarterbacks on the active roster, as he joins Drew Brees and Chase Daniel.

The Saints will need to make corresponding roster moves to accommodate Carr and Hill.

Admittedly I do not know much about Hill, but I did just watch some vids of him this preseason and he reminds me of Steve Young to some extent. Look at his pass over the middle against Eagles. Tight window, nice throw

The Saints need a QB with the last name Kidd who is related to Capt. Kidd and as a kid in 4H raised baby goats (kids). He be the Kid 4.0!!! "Would I Kid You?"

Hill was on my radar. I thought he'd get released but man wouldn't it be nice to snag him and see if the guy is for real. I wake up this morning and it had happen.

I like the Carr signing as well. Didn't know of him. Nice to see we are picking up other players from teams who released them and I don't hear of other teams signing players we released. A sign perhaps we aren't letting talent get away?

He's better than Steve Young... he completed EVERY PASS ON ALL of those videos. :rolleyes:

I like what I've seen so far. I wasn't familiar with either one before now but the early reports look promising. I've got to go now so I can practice screaming their names.......the same way I scream Tommy Lee!:p

Carr is a GREAT pickup. He will be better than Snead.

Yeah, I won't believe Carr is as good in the short game as Norm until I see it for myself either.

Remains to be seen, of course. But if he is, might he make Slick Willie sign his big fat contract somewhere else next year?

Hill seems to have some pretty good speed and being 27 years old means he is more mature than most rookie QB's. I would like to see him against a first team defense.

Watched a bit more of Austin Carr highlights & things that stick out to me ..

He has above average hands.
Runs really good/precise routes.
Good size (slot target). Assume he's around 6'1, 6'2.

He won't run away from defenders but I see a lot of Willie Snead in his game. It will be interesting to see how quickly he picks up the playbook. By week 3, Austin could see a substantial amount of snaps.
