Re: Garrett Grayson pick was a miss, but still logical for the Saints to keep looking for next quarterback

Nope; I think we should quit looking for the next quarterback and hope something miraculous happens...

How many elite QB's in the game today were picked after round 1?

I said elite.
only 5 of the top 20 last year were drafted out of the 1st round, and a few were high 2nd rounders like Brees and Carr. Prescott isn't exactly elite, however if it weren't for the DUI he would have likely been a 1st rounder, or high 2nd. |

For Brees, he was good, not elite, till he joined forces with Sean Payton in New Orleans as a non-retained Free Agent; so in Brees' case, his success was due in large part to the coaching... As the same could be said for Tom Brady; he joined forces with Bill Belichick, the standard in NFL coaching and personnel management today... While I'd agree the odds are much greater for success taking a QB in the first round that has greater physical skills... I think it's the team, the existing personnel, and most of all, the coaching that plays a larger role in that QB's success... New Orleans, with Sean Payton & Co., doesn't need a Top 15 Quarterback to be successful (which is why I was so relieved KC saved Payton from the Mahomes gaffe)... It'd be nice, but not necessary; and until recent draft success by the Saints with Ireland in-house, I was betting the next QB was going to be found in the UDFA pile... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
