Rather have them now rather than later. If players are going to miss games the first quarter of the season ain't the time to do it.

I think you missed the point by about this much:

The point is that coming back midseason doesn't necessarily doom an organization.

The secondary point is that the depth is going to be just that much better because they are going to get some real game action.

Final point is that the critical games this season are going to be in December (4 out of 6 division games), January (playoffs), and hopefully February (well, you know...). Having healthy players then is going to be critical.

I'd point out, Brady wasn't injured, he was suspended, and while he wasn't able to practice with the Pats, he was game ready: he had gone through OTAs, camp, preseason, and most likely he worked out on his own during the suspension.
