this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I'm not sure who would give us a good offensive lineman for Adrian Peterson. I happen to believe he has something left in the tank, and he can be successful here, or elsewhere, but he IS 32 and that kind ...

Re: Adrian Peterson Needs To Geaux
I'm not sure who would give us a good offensive lineman for Adrian Peterson. I happen to believe he has something left in the tank, and he can be successful here, or elsewhere, but he IS 32 and that kind of makes his trade value next to nothing. Teams that need running backs will probably inquire about him, sure, but they'll be talking about mid round draft choices, not starting offensive lineman. Just my two cents.

Re: Adrian Peterson Needs To Geaux
Let this sink in.
No one on the Saints is more familiar with the Vikings defense than AP. Yet not even once did we use AP in pass protection. Not once did we use AP on a checkdown route, where he can be very deadly if he gets a one and one matchup. Not once did we use AP as a decoy with play action and roll the play the other way. Sean had no problem using Kamara and Ingram in multi-faceted ways, but we couldn't give AP the same treatment?! He has far more game experience than Ingram and Kamara combined. If this is how we were going to treat AP, might as well made him inactive and gave his carries to Victor or Edmunds. More and more I am also starting to see that Brees is a prisoner in this system. Bradford gets to make checks at the line but Brees cannot do so because the coach's ego is on the line? Now that we have better special teams coaching and better assistants coaching LB, WR, etc. we are wasting their talents as well. I don't know if I've ever seen a game where the players outside of 1 CB all played pretty well, no turnovers, no short field, etc. and still lost this badly. 100% coaching. I'm tempted to say fire Payton, Carmichael and DA and give this team to Mike Nolan as an interim. |

Re: Adrian Peterson Needs To Geaux
Anyone blaming AP for last night is crazy. AP didn't sign himself to the team and he's not calling the plays. Maybe if our head coach wasn't so concerned with coming up with special formations and player packages and actually let his OC worry about the offense while he took care of the overall coaching of the team we might have had a different result.
Over time Payton's offense is becoming less explosive and more predictable. Also, I'm not fooled by the stats at the end of the game. No one is impressed with getting a bunch of garbage yards at the end of the game when the defense is playing prevent. One thing I did notice last night with our offense is that our no huddle offense is really effective. This has actually been the case the last 2 years. When we stop all the substitutions and just execute with pace our offense gets in a better rhythm and it starts to resemble what our offense used to look like (explosive wise) |

Re: Adrian Peterson Needs To Geaux
As soon as we stopped throwing to the RB's, that's when we started becoming effective.
We were not aggressive at all until late in the 3rd, then we got to the goal line and Payton just gave up multiple times and settled for 3!! |

This. I really wish we would stop throwing bubble screens and quick screens to the running backs and wide receivers. We never get yards off these type of plays. It used to drive me crazy when we would run these type of plays with brandon cooks.

The biggest thing we were missing was the vertical passing game and PA pass, it wasn't even attempted until halfway through the 3rd QTR. Having the vertical pass being a threat for the defense opens up the bubble screen, RB screens and run game. Brees had 74 yards passing at half... unacceptable, we should come out taking shots down field and look to the run game to secure the lead. |

Payton has completely lost it, Carmichael should call plays. |

One thing I see changing next week; no settling for multiple FGs. We don't have the D to win in that situation but we likely thought we did. It's obvious we do not.

Re: Adrian Peterson Needs To Geaux
Maybe if Drew Bress could audible instead of running everything sent in to him it would also make a difference. I don't really Blame AP for being disappointed as much as I blame Payton for leaving Harris in there to make a fool out of himself.
