So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
So AP. Under whelming so far to be sure.
Disclaimers (in advance) : Not enough carries. Used in obvious running situations. Virtually no preseason time to get in rhythm. Not given space (DL/LB on him on as he gets the ball), what else, poor run support by the O-line (kind of the same thing as the last excuse/reason, right?) Observations: He seems as strong as ever. He is fiery, and he wants to contribute. That being said he doesn't seem to have that 5th gear, that speed burst that made him the monster that he was. OK, you can say our O-line isn't doing our running game any favors, and maybe not....but Ingram and Kamara seem to be able to find running lanes... yet AP has not. I'm reminded of a joke a Cowboy friend of mine had of a running back (I forget which, it was years ago) but if we need 3 yards we can count on our RB. If we need 4 yards we can count on our RB for 3 yds. That's what I feel about AP. I hope I am wrong. Anyone have any other thoughts? |

Wow, OK. So all of your observations are worthy of press releases. I'm sorry my post wasn't....what?

Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
True he may not have the explosion he once did, but the ability is still there. I thought last week he looked like he was finally beginning to find himself within this offense. There's also something to be said for the coaches needing to learn and understand how to utilize this 3 headed monster we've got at RB, and it seemed like maybe they're starting to get that figured out too. Still a whole lotta season left to play and I think his role will start to expand a bit. And if history repeats itself there may be some games where we're gonna need him to step in and be the starter. Don't give up on the old guy yet, there's still some gas left.

Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
Hasnt been really given a chance to succeed.1 carry here one carry there isnt the way to use the guy. Sean doesnt run the ball often enough for any back to succeed to be honest. His style of runninf is done with screen passes.

We have seen the exact same thing with Ingram. A carry here, a carry there, he was crap. When we actually stuck to the run and using Ingram as the main runner, low and behold, he was good. This is the same thing with AP. Has he lost a bit of pep, of course, we all get older and his past injuries have taken a toll. But I am willing to bet, if Ingram gets hurt, AP will start to shine with getting more carries than, here and there. |
Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
I still think his time will come. Football is a lot about finding your rhythm and he hasn't really gotten there yet.

Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
Knew it wasn't going to be easy for us or him, but it's starting to looked forced...
I liked that Ingram, whom we've spent five plus years developing, moulding our scheme, led the way rushing and complementing with Kamara... We could us a reserve 3-tech DT, I'd move AP in a second for a quality defensive lineman and bring back Darius Victor as a reserve... |
Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
I'm in the minority; but I think AP is needed... As we get later in the season, his carries will steadily increase and god forbid if Ingram catches a injury or something...

Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
He looked kinda slow but still very strong. Once the oline settles in, I think they'll get more use outta him. He can still take on linebackers and flatten Dbacks so if he gets the blocking up front, he should be valuable.

Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
He is better than Hightower as a rotational back I believe. He will find his groove and Ingram will probably miss some time with an injury. We have got to stop forcing the ball to any RB except Ingram. Feed him the ball and we can win games.

Re: So, the elephant in the room: Peterson
Barring an injury to Ingram or Kamara will AP finish the season with the Saints?
I feel like the Saints will attempt to trade him for some defensive line help if the opportunity arises, with a team like the Giants. |

I gave it time to marinate so if anybody missed it I meant anal. I repeat, I meant she might be down for the DP. If you try it at home on your significant other and she kicks you out of the house I'm not responsible.
