Him trying to say "the players are using their free speech" is the most galling to me, since the NFL so rigidly bars so much the players say elsewhere. They've even fined players for tweets or not giving press conferences.

Here's my 10 cent idea:

Players may choose to participate (stand and show proper reverence) or stay in the locker room.

If you choose to stay in the locker room, you will be fined $25,000 per incident and that fine will be distributed amongst charities such as disabled American veterans, wounded warriors, boys and girls clubs, etc.

I think that it's only fair when the NFL fine players for the wrong socks, throwing balls into the stands, celebrations, and other minor "protests".

This would allow the protesting players to actually make a difference in the lives of others instead of being a national spectacle for their own self promotion.
