First, what else is Meyer going to say? Meyer's got a vested interest in seeing his players drafted as they become plumes in his recruitment process... Second, not everyone has the same objectivity and optics - the folks here at Black and Gold are an example of that... Third, Saints decision-makers were hired to make the decisions, not Urban Meyer or whomever council is being sought... Not one pick Payton/Loomis has made where the costs was two picks are more has worked out for us... That even includes Brandin Cooks, who we were lucky we were able to flip into a first round pick AND have San Fran save us from Reuben Foster... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints
Didn't we pick someone in the supplemental draft once before?

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints
QB Dave Wilson (Illini) is the only outright NFL supplemental draft pick we've ever made - first round, 1981
(Note: Saints were required to give up an equivalent pick in the following draft which resulted in the 1982 first round pick, 3rd overall pick... In the 1984 USFL Supplemental Draft, Saints got LB Vaughan Johnson (Jacksonville Bulls), RB/KR Mel Gray (LA Express), LB Steve Dearden (Memphis Showboats)... A supplemental draft pick of note was Steve Walsh, but we didn't select him... That distinction belongs to Dallas' Jimmy Johnson, who drafted his Miami, FL QB with the second overall pick in the 1989 NFL Supplemental Draft... (Note: Like New Orleans, Dallas had to surrender their equivalent first round pick in the next draft, 1990, which turned out to be the first overall pick of that draft) Jimmy Johnson favored his college QB, Walsh, over future (overrated) HOFer Troy Aikman... But instead of trading for Aikman, Saints Jim Mora insisted on Walsh, sending the Saints 1991 first, second, and third round picks... Steve Walsh was out as the starter by the next season when Bobby Hebert returned after a contract dispute; Walsh played 8 more game before being released in 1994... Unfortunately that cautionary tale is forgotten, lost on the current regime at to what happens when a head coach has too much stroke and has a weak, yes-man GM... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...
