Peterson trade?
I can't see him being happy riding the pine like this.
Anyone know of a team desperate for a RB? Trade for a pick maybe??? |

Re: Peterson trade?
Don't forget... it's a long season. We have 2 basic options...
1. Keep him just in case of season injuries at position. 2. Wait to trade deadline when a team might be willing to pay more. Personally, I don't want to make the playoffs and not have a 1st string RB at the position like we did for one season. |
Re: Peterson trade?
Let's face it AP is a strong 3rd string.
Ingram is starter and 3rd down back. AP can be mixed in. Kamara is 2nd string. He's faster and complements Ingram. If Ingram gets injured, and he does when he's taking the lions share of duties, AP will be a Godsend. AP will have to get used to playing in a platoon system. He came to the Saints to get paid and for an opportunity for a Championship. |
Re: Peterson trade?
Highly unlikely. I don't see a team in the league that would be willing to do a trade ... especially considering he hasn't looked all that good.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
We'll just need to resign him when Mark takes his midseason break anyway.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
He's no longer any good. I'll take an 8th rounder right now.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
Could trade off Peterson and bring back Tim Hightower as the 3rd string back.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
He won't be happy in this role but we need the backup
|
Re: Peterson trade?
How about a Shady/AP tandem in Buffalo? Seems real sexy on paper.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
My first thought was who would want him (nobody else seemed to want him in the off season) but then I just saw Minnesota's starting RB went down...maybe we can get a case of Juicy Fruit or some thing.
AP was a beast in the day because he had great strength and a great burst of speed. He now has great strength but no burst, and apparently no vision. Ingram and Kamara seem to be able to weave their way though what our blockers give them, AP goes north - south worst result 2 yards, best result 4. Meh, if we keep him, so what, he's just getting back-up RB money anyway. |
Re: Peterson trade?
There's 0% chance he's still on the team after our bye week.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
I don't think he has any trade value left.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
Ingram will get hurt and miss a couple of games as he always does. This is why AP was brought in. AP has a fragile IR history so he has to be saved as much as possible.
Thus the reason I never liked the signing. |
Re: Peterson trade?
Looked splashy when we signed him, but no one could have predicted Kamara being available in the draft, or that AK would have an immediate impact. Now Peterson is just not needed
Seattle's back went down also. Hopefully our phone is ringing |
Re: Peterson trade?
We will need him when Ingram goes down with his yearly case of turf toe.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
There are too many better RB's floating around. I see no trade value other than maybe SF. Carlos is beat up and odds are won't make it the full stretch. They have Brieda but AP would be an upgrade. What would we get though? A 7th round or some D grade lineman...meh, might as well keep him as bad insurance policy you hope you never have to use.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
I think Peterson is still good. I don't think he fits in our offense.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
We have three good RB's. If one goes down then we only have two.
AP might have trade value......we already traded one player who didn't fit the system and we have drafted better under Ireland. We signed him late in the draft process and his input wasn't that great the first year. His second year with us showed that he has an eye for defense and knows how to draft. Personally, I want to keep AP on the team playing Tim Hightower's old role which I think was the original plan was for him before the schedule had us playing Minny our first game. |

Re: Peterson trade?
I'd see if Minny wants him. We have Edmunds and Lasco to fill in if AK or Ingram have to rest a couple of weeks. It was odd we didn't put AP in with 5 mins to go in the game to let him do clean up in garbage time.

Re: Peterson trade?
Our running backs don't get 2,000 yards in individual stats per year but we use them in so many other ways. They are also very important in the Saints offense, whether we fully grasp the concept or not. Although we're a passing team, our backs are used as receivers and are very important in blocking and 3rd down situations.
Usually our starters goes down mid-season because we use our backs in so many ways. Ingram has been starter for a while and seriously you need 2 starting bruiser backs in the offense SP runs. He's not prone to injury, it's how we use them that makes them prone to injury. Kamara is the finesse back in the slot Reggie Bush made so famous with us with Sean Payton's offense. We need Ingram, Peterson and Kamara for the offense to work correctly. If Ingram or Kamara get hurt, AP will be of incredible value to this team. Unfortunately running backs get hurt in our scheme right in the middle of season during division chase OR right when playoffs start. We want to prevent what happened during the 2010 season and playoffs when pretty much we were calling up retired players and non-playing running backs for help off the street to just get SOMEONE in the 1st and 3rd down runningback slot. Kamara will never be able to hold that position alone if Ingram went down. I also think without depth at that position our offense become extremely limited and predictable. |

Re: Peterson trade?
Is everyone crazy? No one is going to trade anything for Adrian Peterson...

Lots of football left and running backs take a pounding over the course of a season. Adrian is a good insurance policy to have if anything happens to Mark. |
Re: Peterson trade?
Prior to the Dolphins game I was pumping the brakes on Kamara but I'm not any longer. I think he has Thurman Thomas potential for us, we could certainly center our offense around him and MI is a very nice complement to keep us from overusing AK.

Re: Peterson trade?
If any of you have a chance, google RICKEY WATTERS. He was a really good change of pace back. Kamara reminds me a lot like him.

Re: Peterson trade?
There's another side to all this, maybe Peterson doesn't want to go anywhere? The only thing I heard from Peterson is week 1 being a little upset about not getting the ball more, which is understandable against his old team. I am not going to assume Peterson is currently satisfied, but maybe he likes his chances at getting a ring and is willing to roll with it? The media are really the only one's making a big deal right now. I am sure all AP has to do is say the word and he would be released or traded.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
I think Darius Victor could fill that role just fine. Trsde him to Minnessota for the best defensive player theyll part with.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
If Peterson wants to be traded and another team is willing, then it's a no-brainer. All parties had to know going in, he was not a fit for what the Saints do on offense. As a Saints fan, I like having Peterson as an insurance policy against Ingram getting hurt. The guy can still be productive given the opportunity.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
Peterson would have to become a monumental distraction in the locker room in order to be dealt. Saints FO would gain nothing by trading him.
It's still a long, challenging season (see remaining schedule) & you'll need fresh backs down the stretch. Adrian goes no where. |
Re: Peterson trade?
He's insurance. The wrong coverage plan but many teams don't even have that. He's not going anywhere. Whatever we could get for him we could find on the street for free.
|
Re: Peterson trade?
Keep him. He's on a one year deal. His real value to us (and I said this before) is when Ingram eventually goes down for 2+ games like he does every season.
