The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Yeah its early but who you got your eyes on?
|
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Jarvis Landry, WR, Miami Dolphins
Sheldon Richardson, DE, New York Jets Ezekiel Ansah, DE, Detroit Lions |
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
More beef up front, on either side. Maybe a Fleecer replacement, not Grambeaux though. And always more DBs.
|
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
The Jimmy Garoppolo situation is going to be very interesting. The Saints would seem to be a logical fit and could possibly be a 10-15 year solution. I would bet New England applies the franchise tag, but if they don't it could be something to watch.

Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Well, the bigger issue for us is cap management and that's likely to dictate what we do in free agency...
For example, will we be trading folks for future cap relief? Also, do we extend contracts coming due or move on? Only real needs we have at the moment is TE, reserves at LB, DT3, maybe a reserve Interior Offensive Lineman... This is a balanced team with adequate depth at all positions; in fact, we just released a good cornerback, a premium position no less... |

To stay on point with the defense ...
I'd be elated if we can land a true, sideline to sideline MIKE (what I thought we had in Stephone), & slide AJ over to strong side. |
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Top FA on wish list DaQuan Jones DT/DE Titians 6036 322 5.35 #90 R4 2014 - $3/4 M A massive proven run stuffing 34 DE. Does the dirty work on one of the best DL in the NFL. Ranked 16th among NFL interior linemen in run defense according to PFF in 2016. He is big & athletic and can handle 4-3 one-technique without a question and would be a hand full for C and OG to handle. Rankings and Jordan would surely benefit from Jones. He would help to keep the LBs clean to make plays He could be answer to the lack of 3 man pass rush. Teams always double him up on inside pass rush. Outside pass rush he is not a factor. Move him into a 43 and reap the rewards. He is so under valued in Tennessee. He is my Klien for 2018 Solid depth additions Dontae Johnson CB/FS 49ers 6021 208 4.45 = S/CB 4th rd 2014 - $3/4 M Tampa 2 safety to man press CB? So he is not particularly nuanced and still needs coaching due to the mis use in San Fran. He has value as a nickle and dime guy day one 1. In the slot guarding TE and RB on passing downs. off-man coverage and in the Box is were also where he will excel. Put him on slower larger WR and TE in the slot. Do not ask him to cover quicker receivers.Solid special teamer to boot. Charles Simms RB Tampa 6000 214 4.46 RD3 2014 - $1/2M . Odd man out. Yet another multi talented back to match up with Ingram and Kamara. He’s a good pass blocker and 3rd down back. Worse team for Simms to go to was the Tampa. On third downs Alvin Kamara would love him in the backfield with him and the pairing would drive teams nuts. He was wasted in Tampa. So So Big ticket? John Brown WR/KR Cards 5100 179 4.34 3rd Round 2014 $4/5 M A proven Human Joy Stick with speed to spear. I am looking at the KR skill set here big time. Big ticket Can the FO pull a wabbit out of their hat? Morgan Burnett SS/FS/CB Green Bay 4 / $32M jack-of-all-trades.strong safety, slot corner and even linebacker. he doles it all. make him a lifetime-Packer? Or is Josh Jones the future? Opps Bennett is out with an Achilles injury so pause and wait to see how bad it is Kyle Fuller CB Bears 5116 190 4.40 1st Round 2014 - $8/10 M Tampa 2? Wrong needs to go to a more press defense. strong at playing the ball and and there is the injury question from last year. Protection or Refusal. Draft or FA is always hard choice with a solid CBs always battling injuries. I like the veteran route but Drew will suck the cap money almost dry. Can we really afford a contract like this with Drew a FA? Probably not. Watch List Chris Smith DE Bengals 6010 266 4.71 5th Round 2014 - $2/4 M 34 OLB? nah that did not work. 43 DE sure and Cinnci is giving him a shot now. Christian Jones OLB/ILB 6031 249 4.68 CHI $1/2 M Solid depth addition at MLB and SLB . solid special teamer to boot |
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Sheldon Richardson - DE
Kam Chancellor - S Shaq Barrett - OLB |

There are several of our own free agents that need to be resigned.
Brees, Vaccaro, Okafor, Bush... After that a few names to look at, in no particular order might be... Bennie Logan, DT from the Chiefs DeMarcus Lawrence, DE from the Cowboys Zach Brown from the, ILB from the Redskins Mason Foster from the, ILB from the Redskins Morgan Burnett from the, SS from the Packers |

I think they'll sign Drew to another one year deal for whatever the top QB contracts are going for. From what we've seen so far, I think they'll try to resign Okafor and Kelemente. Vaccaro will be interesting, between the suspension and the benching, I don't know how much the Saints will be willing to offer but I'd guess several other teams will want him. Just my guesses. We'll have to see how the rest of the season plays out. |
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
I could see a 3 yr 18 mil a year for drew.Fairley, Morstead and Strief should be gone. MI is playing great but Alvin is a legit #1. I would keep both. KV would need to take no more than 4 mil for me to resign. Keep Ginn and let Snead walk.

Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Drew will sign for what he think is fair market value. 25M or whatever.
The saints need to present him a FA that Drew believes is worth taking a cut for. That is his home town definition of a discount. Lets see how players like say do the rest of the year I am voting for proven veteran leadership in the secondary. Morgan Burnett SS/FS/CB Packers (28) 6013 209 4.51 Green Bay $8/9 M Sunday scouting possibility Kyle Fuller CB Bears 5116 190 4.40 1st Round 2014 - $9/11 M There is always Eric Reid FS/SS San Fransico 6012 213 4.53 Rd 1 2013 $7/8 M I trust in Drew to scout defenders. Would Drew go for the best slot WR in the NFL? Jarvis Landry WR Miami 5114 205 4.61 Rd 2 2014 4 - $10/11 M Whatever happens it will be Drew making the call |
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Agree with Landry
Let Snead walk add a couple of million to what his money would be and try for Landry. Him and Thomas would rack up the yards with Drew |
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
how about Larry Fitzgerald? He is old but he can play the slot at a top level still. Short contract that maybe cheaper.
|
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
Be happy with him but i dont see him walking on Arizona and if he does i think its to someone like the Pats who have a easier route to success

He is also a major player in the players union so won't want to be seen taking to much of a discount

Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
I want to be clear. There is one player and one player only I have on my do everything you can to sign list. Any other players would be a cherry on the top and will require work to sign, this guy will not.
My Top "Big Ugly" Bang for the Buck in 2018 The misuse of his skill set makes him prime for a FA steal. DaQuan Jones DT/DE Titians 6036 322 5.35 #90 Age 25 R4 2014 - $3/4 M A massive proven run stuffing 34 DE. Does the dirty work on one of the best DL in the NFL. Ranked 16th among NFL interior linemen in run defense according to PFF in 2016. He is big & athletic and can handle 4-3 one-technique and without question. Watch this guy play as a 34 DE and this what you will see Inside rush between the OTs is were he shines from his 34DE position. He is ALWAYS double teamed and is ALWAYS there to make a play against the run. He is almost unmovable and unstoppable. Double teaming him does not eliminate him from making a play. One on one blocking? He just pushes that blocker in the backfield blowing up plays and throwing that blocker to the side to make the play. Outside pass rush is were you see the titian have him out of place. He is not the all round impact 34DE they need. Putting him outside is good for anchoring edge not sacking the QB. He can not turn the corner on an OT to save his own life. Keep him inside and watch him shine. The things the Saints are missing up front is what he bring to the table He is a hand full for C and OG to handle. He eats up blockers and space all game long. Benefits Rankings and Jordan would surely benefit from Jones. taking up Dbls teams and stopping the run would free them up more to attack. He could be answer to the lack of 3 man pass rush up the middle. Most important benefit. He would help to keep the LBers clean to make plays He would also open up more lanes for the blitz Hands down the biggest bang for the buck FA in 2018. His impact would be felt across the board for the front 7 as a unit. Blitzers will be loving him. I love the dirty work players. Get ready I am starting to :deadhorse2: early this year |
Re: The way to early 2018 FA watch list
We need a true MIKE on D. Klein is a nice FA acquisition however we need a true sideline to sideline assassin.
Watching this 2017 Saints D, we could be one or two players away from becoming a dominant defensive ball club. |
