Wed Apr 13 2005 - Joe Horn reportedly has reached an agreement on a long-term contract. The best receiver in team history was entering the final year of his deal. It's great fantasy news for Aaron Brooks. ProFootballtalk.com is the first to break the story, we'll update once contract details are available.

Joe Horn signs new contract?!!!

AP reports the Saints and WR Joe Horn have basically agreed to a new six-year contract. \"It\'s not done yet,\" Saints GM Mickey Loomis told WWL and NOPF\'s Kenny Wilkerson Wednesday. \"There\'s a ways to go. We made a lot of progress, but its close enough that I feel good about it.\" The two sides have agreed in principle to a six-year, $42 contract including an $8 million signing bonus. The signing bonus is partly deferred, $4 million now and $3 million gauranteed next year. These numbers are similar to what NOPF reported on March 18. The contract is really only a three-year contract, the amount of time Horn expects to play before retiring, but was signed as a six-year deal to help the Saints spread the cap hit out. Base salaries for the first three years are $750,000, $1 million, and finally $4.2 million in 2007. $1 million of the signing bonus was paid in March, as part of the roster bonus due Horn in his previous contract.

How long will Joe Horn be happy with this contract?

Hell, he hasn\'t been happy with any of the other contracts he has signed.

God forbid that Joe catches 100-passes this season. It will be time to draw up yet another contract for ol\' Joe.

Seriously though ... I\'m okay with whatever contract Joe can get for himself. I never fault players for trying to get more money.

If the \"team\" is willing to pay ... then obviously they feel he\'s worth it.

So if you spread $8 million over 6 years that\'s $1.25 million per year on average. Add in his salaries of 750K and 1 mill, and his average cap his will be $2 -$2.25 million per year????

So he actually costs the Saints LESS? (at least until 2007). Glad everybody on this site was ready to trade him a month ago. :casstet:

Glad Joe was saying a month ago he wanted top 5 money to justify people wanting to trade him, and then glad he went back on that to a reasonable deal so we could keep him. :casstet:

Aw c\'mon WhoDat.
The VAST majority of folks here said we should re-negotiate his contract to make it less of a cap hit.

EVERYBODY? If i\'m not mistaken some folks thought he should be paid Moss/Harrison money. Most disagreed with that and suggested if he did show him the door.
Well guess what? He ain\'t getting Moss/Harrison money.

We did EXACTLY what everybody wanted us to do a month ago. It was a win-win. Why try to blame everybody for something that never was?
