why thomas davis?

Davis is a good player but I think is too much of a tweener. I dont think Davis is the biggest need. If they want to get a safety then Ernest shazor from Michigan could be a good pickup in the 2nd round.

Davis is 6'1 226 with a 4.52 40
Shazor is 6-3 5/8 223 with a 4.45 40

Shazor is a tweener also...

Why do people call Davis a tweener.
I always thought tweener meant too small for this and too slow for that.

Thomas Davis is NOT too small to play LB. The combine had him at 6-1\" 231. Thats the same height, and 9 lbs HEAVIER than Ray Lewis weighed at his combine.

And at 4.54 40 he sure isn\'t too slow for SS.

From a different post of mine, and I will continue to cut and paste every time I hear TD is too small.

Quote:

Playing in NFL now...
5-11, 242 Jamie Winborne
6-0, 223 Ian Gold
6-0, 235 Derrick Brooks
6-0, 234 Levar Fisher
6-0, 242 DJ Williams
6-0, 233 TJ Slaughter
6-1, 237 Jessie Armstead
6-1, 231 Will Witherspoon
6-2, 245 Keith Brookings
6-2, 245 Brady James
6-2, 244 Mark Fields
6-3, 235 Boss Bailey
6-3, 235 Julian Peterson

all im saying is that saints are not good enough yet on defense to be getting \"tweeners\" in the first round.

Although I generally agree with this sentiment. I\'d like to point out that Will Smith was considered by many to be a \"tweener\"

Why is \"tweener\" considered to be bad? I always viewed the term \"tweener\" to mean one that can play multiple positions, due to size, athleticism, instincts, and/or skills.
Chris Gamble, who I liked alot, but most of you didn\'t, was a tweener. Terrell Suggs, Boss Bailey, and Andre Woolfork were considered tweeners. Dan Cody, DeMarcus Ware, Thomas Davis, Shawne Merriman...all tweeners.

I\'m sick of all this tweener talk. A draft prospect is either a playmaker or he isn\'t. Size, speed matter but not nearly as much as anticipation, quick decision making, and NEEDING to make a play do. I would take David Pollack over most of these players in this draft. He is also considered a tweener. Trust me, this kid will be a probowler. He eats, sleeps, dreams football. That\'s the kind of player the Saints need. I think Davis who played with Pollack is that type of player.

thank you..I hate the combine-all it really is designed to do is to differentiate between two similar players, but it ends up creating legends...but mostly creating busts. pick a footballl player over an athlete anyday-but I hear davis is a football player.

Davis is that type of player. According to the people I talk to, Davis was the leader for the Bulldogs defense, not Pollack. People that have the ability to step up and lead are a different breed, and we could use some on this team.

Speaking of the \"tweener\" topic, here is a great article on it by John Clayton.
