why should we not at least except a first for howard? i really don't understand.......would'nt you as a team in need of a proven player such as howard give a first and then some for an immediate impact player? come on, enlighten me......... i know the cap situation and i also know that contracts are reworked everyday to work within the cap......if the saints, and this is a bad example, needed howard, what would they give? the uncertainty of the draft will always be that. choose whichever stud you think is out there but the truth remains, they have to not only comprehend, but adjust to the nfl. and then, they need to stay healthy........lot of head hunters out there looking to make a name for themselves.....so, you manage to be at the top of your game for yrs and you don't deserve the top salary? b.s....................in howards case i'll take the proven player..........don't alot of you whine about proven players the saints should have gone after? you don't seem to mind about paying for them.......yeah, yeah, yeah, you can say we not paying the players we want almost double digits but if it was someone you really wanted that has proven himself again and again you could justify it......
and for the record, someone tell me if howard has ever spoken out against the saints or his teammates and whined about anything, because i can't recall it............howard shows up to play, hurt or not and although the nfl will always be business, howard is the just the type of businessman you want on your team...............smitty

When you consider a team could draft a bust, then Howard would be a good choice.

But ... we drafted Will Smith who looks like he\'s gonna be a better player than Howard. He certainly made a big impact for us last year. And he\'s much more athletic than Howard. And he\'s got much more upside.

Darren Howard is not an elite DE. He\'s better than average, but that\'s about it. Chances are ... we\'ve seen Darren Howard\'s best football. I don\'t think he\'s ever going to have a monster season.

I will say this ... If Darren Howard is on the team this year, I will not be upset. I think he\'ll make some plays and hopefully Venturi will find more ways to use him.

Last: If we can stop the run and force teams into 3rd and long situations, then teams will have hell stopping our pass rush. Kinda like Jake and the Panthers last year.

What don\'t you buy?

That Howard isn\'t an elite DE?

That Howard isn\'t going to have a monster year?

Other than that, I don\'t think I made one negative remark about Darren Howard.

Really, I don\'t consider any of my remarks negative.

Look Smitty ...

Darren Howard simply isn\'t worth a 1st round draft pick. NO team is going to give us one either.

The only point I\'ve seen that you have made is Darren Howard is a proven DE and that\'s better than getting a player who might not be worth a damn.

Yeah, Okay ...

proven player at what price vs. a young buck stud at what price. howard awnts a lotta bucks for a 29yr old in the what have you done for me lately/what are ya gonna do for me next yr nfl. if randy moss equates to a 1st and a decent LB then how could howard compare to that. as good and as proven as he is i betcha couldnt find one gm that would take him over will smith considering salary and upside potential. i\'ll be happy if they get a 2nd and unload the contract for cap room.

billy, anytime you put up double digit sacks, i don\'t think your over the hill..............
as far as elite it\'s just like beauty, in the eyes of the beholder.
while everyone is getting antsy over howard,, i just question the rush to unload him........these are things i don\'t buy....smitty

I\'d love to get a #1 for Howard, but I\'d only offer a #2 for him. I\'m considering his age, and he may have an injury issue?

The Eagles are reportedly asking a #2 and a #3 the following year for Simon. (or reversed) I like that deal. He\'s younger, and the solid run stuffer that we desperately need. Maybe they\'d take Boo along with a 2nd. I\'m not as optimistic about Sullivan as some are. Hope I\'m wrong about him.

Hey bro....I just think you are looking at things with those black-and-gold colored glasses on. For an injury-prone 29 y/o DE, I think a high second rounder for him is pretty fair, considering that he wants to leave and we need the cap space. It\'s not like he\'s a Jason Taylor or Michael Strahan. You\'d probably give up one first rounder for those type of guys. Would you put Howard in their class....no way. Like saintswhodi said, this guy would have walked for nothing if we hadn\'t franchised him. I even think you\'ll see the franchise tag rules change in the next few years, because gone are the days when one team will give up 2 first rounders for a single player. It just won\'t happen again.

If E James or T Owens isn\'t worth a first rd pick, then neither is Howard. THat was easy!!!!
