this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I believe that Brees' passing arm bothered him and affected some of his passes after his arm was hit while passing; the play that Armistead caught the ball. Hopefully he didn't tear something....

Re: Brees under-throwing some passes
But when he over-throws someone does anyone say his arm is too strong?

Re: Brees under-throwing some passes
Brees doesnt seem to have the arm like some guys to hit deep routes off his back foot or a similar situation. The bigger problem is that the Saints WRs are woeful. Thomas is great at a 10yd curl or a quick slant, like one of the best at those routes but hes slow. Hes gotta learn to break some tackles. Dont be quick. Be big. Catch the ball. Head upfield. We really need Snead to step up or Coleman or Tommylee Lewis. Kmara cant make every play. Good Ds will stop the run. Then we need someone to beat man coverage. Well see. WhoDat!

Re: Brees under-throwing some passes
People like to take a few bad throws and make a big deal out of it, but don't have much to say when he's money. I can think of a number of crucial 2nd or 3rd and long situations over the last few games he has come through on. There's nothing wrong with Drew. The O-line failed him a lot, he did make a few bad decisions but that was likely a combination of the pass rush and game situation. That one lame duck throw, who knows what happened there. Maybe the ball came out of his hand wrong, maybe he did get banged up earlier. I'm not concerned with it honestly, sometimes things just happen. Like losing 3 key starters and taking a loss on the road to a good team. We'll get 2 of those guys back soon hopefully and I expect we will start rolling again. Drew will be Drew and things will be ok.

Re: Brees under-throwing some passes
He can get it down there but they float. Something that has been going on forever and not really an issue since most passes seldom go more than 20 yards. Jarmarcus and Testerverde had all that power and it got them nowhere. A real problem is when it's like Wuefferl who could not do either. Weakest arm I have ever seen in the NFL. How that dude won the Heisman is beyond me. He SUCKED.

Let's see, Reconstructive Surgery on his Throwing Shoulder - Check; Approaching 40 Years Old - Check
Look if you don't think his arm is weakening, you're kidding yourself... That said, I still take Brees over 30 (maybe 29 now that Wentz has progressed) in this league right now... His experience, leadership, knowledge is superior or equal to the elites of the game this past fifteen years... |
