this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I dont find many objections to this. I wouldnt really want to trade up to get someone, but if people started to slip i wouldnt mind seening some of these in black and gold. http://www.neworleansprofootball.com...raftboard.html...

Saints 1st rd draft board?
If this board is true, since Spears is rated pretty high we take him if he is there? And move him to DT? Not saying it\'s terrible, but seems like another project no?
We would be able to get Carlos Rogers at 16. No way I want Barnes at 16, trade down if that is the case. Cody, no. Johnson, at this point I am leaning towards no. Burnett at 16? Hell no. I like the breakdown though. How they assessed teams needs and having a board. Very original, to me. |

Saints 1st rd draft board?
that is decent analysis except for maybe a bit much on players that are not realistically available except for trading up.
it did make me consider two players for #16 more- merriman, he has been pegged hard for a 3-4 team so i haven\'t thought him too possible. he is a talent though that might be a strong conventional strongside LB. word is circulating that he is dropping on many boards because his play was somewhat inconsistent. he could be available at #16 and deserve consideration. spears, i have read some teams considering him at DT. the more i consider that, the more feasible it seems. he is a monster athlete at 6\'4\" 300lbs now. another 10-30lbs would be easy. i\'d love to see him line up at te on some goal line plays (he was the #1 rated te out of hs). i think he has great intangibles as well. |

Saints 1st rd draft board?
Can\'t disagree with that, but why don\'t we draft players to play positions they know? Spears only played DT at the senior bowl, and he did well, against his peers. Haven\'t heard about too many guards or centers going high in this draft so that sets that table right there. Yes we could ask him to gain weight, but then do we committ another 2-3 years to waiting at DT? We know he can play DE, but DT at the NFL level may be a high learning curve to put a #16 pick on.
Don\'t know much about Merriman except the same he is an ideal 3-4 DE rhetoric. If he is there, why not? A few of the draft boards I have read have him rated as high as #7 to Minny, and they don\'t play a 3-4, at least not yet anyway. And I haven\'t heard anything about them switching. We could take a shot on him at 16 if he is there. |

Saints 1st rd draft board?
baron, i told ya, call mickey. get denver\'s #25 for 2006 1st rounder. howard to somebody for a 2nd, say oakland. swap #16 and #118 to philly for #31 and #35. then you can choose at 25-31-35-38-40-82.

Saints 1st rd draft board?
That would be great but with that many picks close to the 2nd rd only a disaster could come out of that, but an A for effort!!!

I would rather trade up to get a playmaker like DJ or Rolle. If we get a bunch of average guys, that doesn\'t help a hole lot. I would rather trade our first Howard and like a fourth to trade up to 8 9 or 10 and get a PLAYA i.e. Derrick Johnson
