SAINTS AGREE TO TERMS WITH CB JIMMY WILLIAMS
April 18, 2005, New Orleans Saints The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with veteran CB Jimmy Williams; it was announced today by General Manager/Executive Vice President Mickey Loomis. Williams, 5-11, 190 pounds, was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round (196 overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft. He signed as a free agent with the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 16, 2001 and spent the last four seasons on the 49ers active roster. In 2004, he played in 12 games with six starts, and recorded 47 tackles and one sack. In 50 career games, Williams posted 87 tackles (74 solo), one sack, one interception and five passes defensed. He has also contributed on special teams as he led the NFL in punt return average (16.8) in 2002. http://www.neworleanssaints.com/news...articleid=1325 |

Wow.
Anyone think we\'re tying to make it look like we\'re not going to take a CB in the draft? |

Maybe we\'re looking to make the Beerman a starting WR, and we\'re looking for a kick returner?

well i think we still need to draft a corner. second or third round. i dont want a patch up crew back there again this year. im starting to like the sound of us drafting davis out of georgia. he looks good as a lb for us. anyone else agree?

Yeah, because it doesn\'t look like they are goning to trade Howard before the draft or trade up Davis is looking like our best option. I don\'t see the point in signing Williams. I think that we have enough vetern leadership in our secondary. We need some young blood in our secondary (esp. at CB) we need to draft one this year since they say that CB\'s is a 3 round deep position. The last CB we drafted was Craver if i am not mistaken and he was doing pretty good until he got hurt.

i do not want to draft Thomas Davis. I said it. I think he will be the bust of the draft. Down the road, he may develop, but in year one, he will do nothing.
Why? I have read from several sources that he is a flat out liability in the passing game, kind of like Tesucky. Why not move him to LB? Are we really going to use a first round pick on a player that hasn\'t played LB in two years and expect him to start in the NFL? He may be a very good player in a couple of years, but this year and next he will have to develope and will not be capable of starting. I personally don\'t want to waste a first round pick on a player that will not contribute. I would much rather draft Jammal Brown or Carlos Rodgers. But that is just me. |

I would love to have Rogers but we are talking about our FO. Tay Tay, you might be right. Haslett did say that whoever they drafted first would be someone who would come in and contribute right away but I just don\'t understand why we are signing so many of these trash players to one year contracts (Smith, Williams, and probaby Fisher) when we could draft players of their caliber in the middle to late rounds. I don\'t see them drafting an OL in the first because I don\'t think any of them will be able to come in and start unless someone gets hurt or released at that positon. I think that they will draft an OT in the 3rd or 4th round where the sleeper picks are located.
