Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Can we all agree, Vacaro sucks? He alone is the reason the Jets were in this game, even with the offense turning the ball over.

Magnet for PI calls

He seems to flip between the hero and the goat (and I don't mean greatest of all time). There just doesn't seem to be a middle ground for him.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

One of the most confusing players I've ever watched.

He will look like an all pro making interceptions and big hits, or he will grabs players arms whilst the balls in the air and looks round confused.

What happened to Rookie Kenny Vac? That guy was a machine.

The decision on what to do with him will be an interesting one.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

I can’t blame him for the calls yesterday. He got flagged on PI’s that weren’t even close.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

What's really really frustrating to me is when he blatantly interferes with a receiver that wasn't going to catch the damn ball anyway.
Interference to save a sure TD?.. OK maybe, but when he goes to tugging & grabbing the receiver with his back turned to the ball for a pass that isn't likely to be caught anyway, that pisses me off. That's just dumb football.

Browner 1.1

Some times he's a leader on the field and then sometimes he appears to be a spectator.

Whoa! Unfare comparison. Browner was a liability as soon as he stepped on the field. He'd find a way to get flagged while the offense was on the field.

"We've got to eliminate the penalties," Payton said. "It shows up every week. The same guys. Every week. Same guys."
Ken Crawley and Kenny Vaccaro walked into Week 15 as the top two most penalized Saints players this season. Vaccaro picked up two pass interference penalties. Crawley landed an unsportsmanlike penalty for a shove on a Jets player still on the ground after the play.

Plus Kenny can tackle. The only contact Browner ever made was grabbing a jersey. Once the receiver caught the ball Browner avoided all contact.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Sadly it’s true that Vaccaro is not very good. What I fear though in letting him leave is messing up the defense’s chemistry. What we don’t see is how much he means to the team behind closed doors during the week.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

He doesn't suck, he just isn't the A-player we'd hoped for.

He's merely an average NFL safety with occasion good to great games.

Not worth a mega-contract thats for sure.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Kenny Vaccaro signed a 4 year, $9,424,712 contract with the New Orleans Saints, including a $5,234,336 signing bonus, $9,424,712 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,356,178. In 2017, Vaccaro will earn a base salary of $5,676,000, while carrying a cap hit of $5,676,000 and a dead cap value of $5,676,000.

Way too much money for the kind of play he is putting up.

^^^^ Get rid of Crawley? He's been nothing but a solid # 2 corner ever since he got his job back from De'vante Harris earlier this season.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Crawley is a top 5 player on our defense

dizzle88 12-18-2017 04:44 PM

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Crawley has been a huge difference maker, he makes dumb penalties every now and again, the shove vs jets was unwarranted but he's a young guy and I imagine he's already learned from that.

As for Paytons "it's always the same guy" speech, I think someone needs to tell him that his top 10 offense didn't score a single point for over 21 minutes at one point during the Jets game.

Focus on converting third downs and let the D play, they may make mistakes but they have won more games than our offense has for us this season. Which is unheard of.

Since he plays like a linebacker why don't they move him to that position its working for mark barron and worked for thomas davis he played safety/lb at georgia

With all of the key additions around KV in 2017, I thought he'd elevate his game this year. It still hasn't happened. Take him away from the LOS, he's limited in ability. As Rez stated earlier, there will be better options out there in 2018.

The call against Crawley was BS; later in the game a Jet player speared a Saints WR while after he was clearly down in front of an official and he wasn't flagged.

it was a bad call, but a stupid play on Crawley's part

Egggzactly! The player he tackled elbowed Crawley as he was getting off of him so Crawley pushed him back. It was a vet getting one over on a youngster. He just needs to learn that it's the second guy who draws the flag so do it to them first.

Kenny drew a couple of (one of them really dumb) flags, but then he came right back and make some tremendously good tackles. He wouldn't be all that easy to replace.

Look like good defense to me. And Roman Haroer are you serious? You are he would have just given up the Reception and TD

I don't think he is great but he isn't that bad either...

I think the Coleman Fumbles kept them in the game more than anything else.

Really! I wonder how it would've been different if Ginn had been playing? Of course, all in all it was a great win!

He needs COACHING, and probably considers himself to be beyond that.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Kenny and Crawley are not perfect, and they are going to make a couple of mistakes just about every game but our defense as a whole (which includes these two) is all around pretty damn good. If either of these two starters were garbage, I don't know how that could be.

Not yet, can't give up on him just yet.

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Vaccarro is a mediocre cover safety. He can play a zone decently and his ball skills are acceptable. He will pick it off if you make a mistake. He can not run with slot receivers or 3rd down backs. He blitzes well and hits likea LB. When he hits you, you going down. He's OK.

Inconsistent. Great plays. Bad plays. Better than no great plays at all. Won't be a Saint next year.

ScottF 12-19-2017 09:37 AM

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

If he wants $7 mill next year I'd say let him go get it.
Recently we've had to play a lot of 3 safety sets, primarily because of injuries/personnel. With depth in the def backfield now, he is a little bit more expendable.

might even get a comp pick in the deal (unheard of, I know)

Does that remind you of another safety we had, who now plays in the city of brotherly love?

I hope the FO doesn't overpay him, and rather try to find a true SS whether it be through the FA or the draft.

Still, I wouldn't be upset if they re-signed him at true market value.

MatthewT 12-20-2017 05:20 AM

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

For the Saints, KV is at his best when he is playing LB. He has the talent, but not the discipline to play a lot of coverage, and please do not ever line him up as the deep center guy in a cover 3. With that said, someone will overpay for him in free agency, and I just hope it's not another team in the NFC South. If he stays in the NFC South he will have at least 2 games per year that he is lights out.

Curious how much of the groin injury is still affecting him? That could definitely slow him down a step or 2 in coverage.

That's the problem, he's not a safety with coverage skills. He'll make a tackle or two at the line & a lot will praise him on having a good game. Yet some forget about the 5 passes he gives up or the stupid pass interference he commits in a game. He's average in the slot & even worse in deep safety zone. Here's my question ... Why pay a guy who plays decent in a LB role close up on the line? I wouldn't.

Eric Reid
Kemal Ishmael
Tavon Wilson
Morgan Burnett

All better viable safety options in 2018 FA.

ChrisXVI 12-20-2017 09:18 AM

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Eric Reid is an interesting case. The 49ers have moved him to WLB because they preferred Jaquiski Tartt at SS. Curious to see if they invest in Reid to play that moneybacker role because if not he’d be the ideal Vaccaro replacement.

jeanpierre 12-20-2017 10:23 AM

Re: Can we all agree, Vacaro....

Inconsistency is a fair criticism...

Do believe he's still injured with the groin pull and that's limiting him in his coverage...

I'm all for improving the roster, but who's available that's better?

I think over spending on guys in FA is over with now that Jeff Ireland is on board. Build through the draft (see Williams, Latt, Ramz & that cat named Kamara) if at all possible.

Kenny's upgrade could be entering the 2018 draft in a few months ;).
