Michael Thomas' uncle Keyshawn called Payton to share secret, background on nephew's talen
The Saints were about to move on from franchise record-holder Marques Colston after 10 seasons and needed another similar-type receiver to replace him.
That's when Johnson said he told Payton "the best receiver in college football is Michael Thomas. Just trust me on this." "Sean said OK," Johnson said. "So Sean went, worked him out and did the whole deal." After the workout, Payton wanted Johnson to keep quiet about the sure-handed, 6-foot-3 Ohio State product. "Don't say anything; be quiet," Johnson recalled Payton telling him. "I said, 'Don't worry about it.' "And the next thing you know, the moment they had to grab him, they were going to take him late (in the first round), but there was no buzz of him going high in the (second round), so Sean kept it quiet and snatched him up and the rest his history." Keyshawn Kohnson-elite route runner, credits Bill Parcells for helping him get even better, geez!, great guy to watch and emulate. Against the Panthers, Mike Thomas emulated Keyshawn and didn't attempt to juke or stutter step anyone, as he has in the past. You're 215+lbs. Don't try to be Reggie Bush. Put your head down and punish DBs whenever you can. If Mike T can start breaking some tackles on a couple of the countless short catches he makes, he could become the best receiver in the league. Has anyone ever just showed up, NFL ready, day 1, rookie year, poised, polished, catching everything, in traffic, clutch moments, the works. WOW! If I would've played, that's how I would've been.

I had forgotten this tidbit. Does make sense why the kid is so damn polished.
Yet another example of Coach taking time doing his research and STEALING an awesome player from the rest of the league. Go Coach go! (Change Flash to Coach!) |
