Why I dont blame Marcus Williams 100%
Even though many people tend to believe he got a huge payoff and it helped bettors very well.
my opinion on this is it comes down to Vegas and the officiating. Granted it wasnt atrocious officiating in this game like seen in the Saints/Falcons 1st matchup, I think the terrible officiating all year long was an influence on this game and many others resulting in how the defense played. Topped with a head judge that has called over 60% of the penalties against visiting team, this was the situation Dennis Allen put Williams in, had their been tighter coverage you know a PI was going to be called even if it was ticky tac. Dennis Allen though I think is a scapegoat in this for not having someone back at the goal line or even at least bring a safety to blitz Keenum with how much time he had back there. This is why the PI rule needs to be reviewed and changed to 15 yrd penalty instead of spot foul. This is what has games hard to watch at times on top of holding penalties which many was missed today on Minny as well. |

I don't really agree when people saying "he did it so he didn't get the PI."
Watching the replay he timed his run up almost spot on, he just decided to try and hit Diggs' legs and missed badly. He's been a heck of a player for us this year, but he made an inexcusable blunder in the biggest moment. If a kicker missed a game winning kick, the loss would fall on his shoulders, Williams made a horrendous play with barely 3 seconds to go in the game. |

Yeah I've seen the replay a few times, and I don't know how anyone can say he was trying to avoid PI. The best thing for him to have done in that situation, as the free SAFETY (there is a reason they call it the "safety" position) is to pull up and make sure he stays in front of the play, so that if Diggs catches it, he can tackle him, and the game is over. He basically dove FORWARD underneath Diggs' legs and right passed him. That's not trying to avoid PI in my estimation. It's just a brain cramp at the worst possible time in a game.
I don't know why people aren't talking about Payton not running for the first down on 3rd and 1 on the go ahead drive, and trying to run the clock all the way down before kicking the field goal. When I saw that he had made that decision to just position the ball and leave time on the clock, I figured I'd get on here and see people going berserk about that, as well as Williams' play. I don't think I've seen one mention of it, though. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

He should have just hit him and taken the chance. I think everyone would much rather lose on a last second field goal then the worse defensive coverage in the history of the NFL. That prevent defense has to go. The only thing it prevented was us from winning the game. Whatever happened to the Payton with an onsides kick?

Did that not happen? If not, then the the radio guy lied through his teeth, or was remembering the wrong play. He even had a guest who came on and agreed with him, I believe. I'm rather confused now. |

I agree he did try and miss however he shouldn't have made a play like that he was the Saftey and needed to play back and not the ball. He should have been there to make a tackle nothing more. Stay out of the mess and come up to make a tackle once a catch or tip happened. He put himself in that position to get an interference call.
Its about being football smart and well I see where the IQ was on this play. Do I think the whole game is on him no it was just one play he screwed up on. Granted it cost us the game but there were other plays we could have made or happen that wouldn't have us in that position. |

Re: Why I dont blame Marcus Williams 100%
I never got over the 30 yard plus penalty for PI on Crawley. That was BS. We showed heart though. We came out playing scared in the first half and in the second half the tables turned and we where aggressive and Vikes where playing scared. The refs are going to give all the love to the home team so we just have to get a higher seed so we can catch the breaks. No way they win this game in the real Dome.
