I held firm - an open letter
Following the Lions game, I didn't watch any Saints or NFL games this year. Barely even saw a highlight or two. Didn't even look at box scores. Because of reasons posted in my blog - http://blackandgold.com/blogs/neugey...aints-nfl.html - and many others, Goodell being a big one.
Yesterday during the Vikings/Saints game I listened to some music on Spotify, did some car repairs, did some chores, played a few video games. I looked at the Saints/Vikings final score after the fact and quickly read about the final play. At my daughter's insistence I did watch the replay of it. What a terrible tackle by Williams! I have no plans of watching the conference championship games or the Super Bowl. I'll find something else to do. Maybe I missed some good football but I also missed out on a lot of nonsense - prima donna factions of players, easy instant replays that take 3-5 minutes when they should take less than a minute, excessive and bad commercials, flags left and right, etc. Who knows what else. I don't regret it. I got to watch those last two Georgia Bulldogs games which each were bonafide classics. If my friends and family had a great time watching the game yesterday then I'm happy for them. So the glass feels half-full for me. I still feel fairly burned out by the NFL - not just by the issues in my blog but just the entirety of it. Still about 90% burned out. After this long off-season, I guess we will see if it persists and then I'll make a decision in August. Right now I am looking forward to more Lakers games, MLB and fantasy baseball and Wimbledon and US Open mainly. I suppose the recent surge of exciting NFL games is an indication that the football gods are trying to correct for Goodell's eff ups. If the players would drop this SJW phase and stand up to Goodell with a long and hard strike for the right reasons, that could earn some trust back. It is really up to the players and coaches - ultimately they provide the product and the entertainment. They are going to have to start going to bat for themselves, the fans and the integrity of the game - for the long-term good of the game. Because ultimately they aren't on a knee for police brutality, they are on bended knee for Goodell. |

Hey good for you.Thats the choice you made enjoy your other activities.

Re: I held firm - an open letter
So did I. I did read box scores, out of boredom, on Sunday afternoon's, and saw the occasional highlight. But I don't watch games or listen to them. As the season wore on it became something I missed less and less.
I have my criteria of what it would take for the NFL to win me back, but I am not holding my breath on it happening. They showed what they're about, and responded to the fans' displeasure without a hint of humility. So with that, I will not waste my time watching their meaningless product. |
Re: I held firm - an open letter
You have some incredible will power my friend. Props to you for sticking to your guns. If you're looking for a fantasy baseball league when the season comes around, send me a message... we're always looking for a good player or two.

My opinion on the Saints is honest. I don't watch games, but I am aware of what is going on. I see sportscenter, I've seen highlights, I know the Saints players tendencies after years of watching many of them (did you think I forgot everything that quickly?). I also remember watching the Saints play the Vikings before my boycott began. I gave some thoughts on this matchup earlier in the week, and it looks like I wasn't exactly off base. Does that mean the Saints suck? No, that was your word that you tried to put in my mouth. If you want to trash my take on what I've said, maybe you could tell me where I was proven wrong, and then we can have an adult conversation. |

No I get it now. Your Saints boycott was so important you couldn’t resist reminding everyone on a SAINTS FORUM that you were still boycotting. But you won’t boycott from sharing your views on how poorly they play. Boy are we suckers for watching the Saints. Man I’m so glad you’re around to remind us all just how much better you are. |

And also, as I have said to you multiple times, I didn't come in here to tell you how bad the Saints suck, or how poorly they played. Why are you making that up? Because it makes you feel better? Could it be *gasp* that you think YOU are superior to me? I don't much care to compare morals, virtues, or opinion eligibility with you. If I have an opinion, I'm going to state it. I wasn't wrong about my take on this matchup, and I never said anything other than pointing out weaknesses and where I thought it would be a problem. If you're too insecure to handle that, this conversation is over. |
Re: I held firm - an open letter
Name call all you want chief. It won’t bother me. If you were actually boycotting instead of pretending to boycott you wouldn’t be here. Shoot, I’ll bet you watched the entire game yesterday didn’t you!!

Re: I held firm - an open letter
Live your life the way you want to, but why even come here to comment if you're not watching the games or keeping track of scores?
That's like me getting on a forum for a school I don't go to, just to tell them I don't go to that school. |

Early in the season, I spent way too much mental energy on Sean Payton's coaching struggles and a few other issues surrounding the team. Likewise, as a Lakers fan I've paid too much attention to the LaVar Ball drama. By now I know I don't like the guy and that he's going to continue acting like a dip**** ... there's no point in reading about or wondering what the Lakers could/should do about it. The Lakers are big boys, they'll have to figure it out. My focus going forward to keep my opinions brief and try to enjoy life more. And certainly I don't judge or begrudge any of you still actively supporting the Saints - everyone has their own hot buttons and opinions and ways of seeing things. Take care guys, don't let this thread get too negative. |

I don't care if y'all watch or not. I will always watch because I love NFL football. Just don't let the door hit you in the ass.

But otherwise, I'm with you. Being away from watching the NFL has opened of a free space in my mind that was too occupied with things that don't matter. Yesterday would have been very painful in the old days for me. But now, it just is what it is. I'll miss some of the memories I've made watching the Saints, if I never watch them again, but things have gotten too ridiculous. |

And no, I didn't watch a single second of the game. I didn't know anything till well after it was over. Ever heard of box scores and sports media? I've said this two times now. But I know throwing stones at me is more fun than paying attention to what I've said. |

Re: I held firm - an open letter
One question....if it truly doesn't matter as you said in your previous post then why bother to explain your stance and feeling on a Saints thread. There are other sections on the board that you can freely express your feelings....especially now that the season is over. Seems like you can't wait to check the box scores even though things are getting too ridiculous. You might not spend that time watching the game but you've spent more than the time it takes to watch a game trying to justify your stance.

I'm not justifying my stance, I am defending myself against some guy who randomly showed up to tell me that I came here to bash the Saints and shove my "stance" down their throats. Read my first post in this thread and tell me if you think it looks like I was justifying myself to others, or pointing a finger at anyone. I mean that. I would like for you to read what I said and tell me if it warranted a personal attack on me by this poster. I didn't intend to say anything beyond my original comment. But I'm sure not going to sit here and let someone lie about me because he apparently doesn't agree with me. Doesn't that make him what he, and you, are accusing me of? Yes the NFL HAS become too ridiculous. That's why I'm not a fan. I'm also not a fan of the NBA, but I pay attention to what's going on because my entertainment is following sports. I don't have to watch it, or emotionally invest in it, to still know what's going on. |
