Saints Offseason Checklist
It’ll take some time to get over the loss in Minnesota but I know many of us look forward to he second season of NFL Football - the offseason. For me as a businessman I love the offseason almost as much as the regular season. Negotiating contracts, trades, prospects....it’s all there.
I’m interested to hear what you think our priorities are going into the dramatic 2018 Saints season. 1. Re-sign Brees to a two year deal ($38M) |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
43 NT
S TE CB DE LB WR RB OL Did I miss a position |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
We really need to draft or sign a decent QB. Its just one play away from a nightmare happing. God bless Drew to stay healthy and we can get a good 2 year deal done. But we need someone to sit behind Drew to learn how to wake up go stretch, study ,workout, stretch more, study,go through your progression's in your mind and Practice Practice Practice. To do it the right way from the GOAT himself. And I'm not talking about Chase Daniel's even tho he's a good guy. Not the guy were going forward with. RE is really important for Dress few years left. Soikd dept on both sides of the line. One decent running back behind our 2 beast. And Linebacker we need someone to run side to side and cover from day one. And move Crawley over to slot and get a real #2 corner. We'll be set for years to come. #GOAT DREW

WR TE OL A LEGIT Qb to develop but not priority we are pretty set everywhere else. Keep in mind all the starters out. We have serious depth. |

Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
I think we hold firm on our drafting stradegy so far...
Then are trending on drafting at least one player on each level: DB LB DL OL WR RB/TE. |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
DE is still #1 priority
OLB TE DB OL WR RB KR |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
DB's that can defend a Hail Mary Pass..
|
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
DB
TE DL/DE LB OL OL OL Taysom Hill is our next QB and he can run just as good as he passes! |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
Hill is pretty old already to be the next injection at QB, he'll be almost 30 when Brees retires.
Needs: DT DE Playmaking WR/TE OL Our weakest position is still the Dline. Okafor was great but if we can’t stay healthy we need to look for another playmaker. The absence of Nick showed how average Rankins is, if he doesn’t play next to a pro bowl DT he won’t make plays. |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
We need a DE/DT first, agreed
Think we need a TE and WR too Think we could use a CB |

Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
Would you guys be interested in signing NaVorro Bowman? He’s a free agent and we had a deal in place to trade for him in October but it fell through...
According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Niners agreed to ship Bowman to the New Orleans Saints for a seventh-round pick. However, the Saints learned that Bowman preferred to be a free agent and get to choose his next team, so the sides reneged on the deal. So we know that we’re interested in him and now that we’re back to being contenders I’m sure he’d like to be here. |

A hard hitting LB that understands his assignments, has instincts & plays with aggression will be within our reach this off season. |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
Rankins is fine adding another quality DT would be a good move IMHO. Aaron Donald is all the proof you need to show how disruptive a penetrating DT can be

May be an upgrade but if it’s only for 3-4 games a season what’s the point. |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
(1) Sign Andrew Norwell - This would give us an All-Pro at LG like we had in Carl Nicks and it'd take away a player from a division rival; the money to pay him could be found in a sign and trade of of Move No. 3...
(2) Sign Sheldon Richardson - Real problem with the pass rush is that pocket's not being collapsed so the edge rushers can finish. Rankins' game simply hasn't translated to the pro game at DT so he's been moved to WDE; and we could also bring back Justin Zimmer who's been lights out in CFL and now that he's had an opportunity at reps... (3) Trade Armstead - Move him while there's still value. He's not played a full season since he was drafted; and there's more articles about how tough and brave he is to fight through injuries; anyone that needs that many stories of adulation when his teammates are toughing through the same bumps and bruises, it's time to move on to someone who will be available for more than 14 games in a regular season; Peat could move to his natural position of LT with two more years on his rookie contract and we could get a second, possibly late first round pick; or we could package Armstead with our 1st to move up significantly in round 1 and maybe get back a mid/late round pick, if Ireland's doing the trade... (4) Pursue Demarcus Lawrence if he does hit the open market and pursue him with every resource the Saints have available; while there's still plenty of upside with Hendrickson, Lawrence is playing at an elite level that matches Cam Jordan; and Okafor could return off injury as one of the best reserves in the league... (5) Tight End - Get the feeling Fleener isn't fitting into the chemistry with the Saints and that means it's time to move on; Graham is the ghost that'll be lingering out there in FA; if Graham would take Fleener's money, do the deal; otherwise, I'd look to others in FA or the draft; but I don't think you spend any more significantly as the success from this season showed we don't need a TE to play winning football. And who knows, maybe Graham learned to block in Seattle... (6) Linebacker, Safety - while I'd agree we need depth at both, I'm not seeing anyone in Free Agency that's an improvement over what we have already, so I'd be cautious about spending there... |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
I still live the old world of football.
It all starts in the trenches. 43 NT is a top my wish list. Gotta stuff the run and eat up double teams. Frees up every one in the front 7. I want a proven vet on the cheap. DaQuan Jones DT/DE Titians (25) 6036 322 5.35 #90 R4 2014 Next is CB or safety. Saints weakest spot in the secondary is slot coverage by both positions. I would like upgrades to both. It is so hard to ponder CB. A few issues need to be answered. Will Breaux come back and if so, does this give us slot CB on the roster? Short list Kyle Fuller CB Bears (25) 5116 190 4.40 Rd1 2014 Rashaan Melvin CB Colts (28) 6016 192 4.42 UDFA 2013 TJ Carrie CB/FS Raiders (27) 5115 205 4.43 #38 Rd 7 2014 Aaron Colvin CB Jaguars (26) 5113 177 4.51 Rd4 2014 Safety is much easier IMO. We need a new age SS. Morgan Burnett SS/FS/CB/LB Packers (28) 6013 209 4.51 Would be that proven modern day SS to take control of our young secondary and guide them. Stop asking him to play LB already. He was a man ahead of his times Others I am watching Mark Barron IB/SS Rams (28) 6010 222 4.54 Rd1 2012 Dontae Johnson FS/CB 49ers (26) 6021 208 4.45 Rd4 2014 Keeping an eye on Deone Bucannon SS/FS/LB Cardinals (25) 6010 211 4.49 Rd.1 2014 He was my next coming of Morgan Burnett. He is so misused in the desert TE is so cap driven for me. Pickings are thin this year. Last year was the loaded with split TE. Slot WR? I am waiting to see what GB does with Randall Cobb WR GB (27) 5102 191 4.46 Rd2 2011 LB? depth Christian Jones OLB/ILB CHI 6031 249 4.68 2017 UDFA Perry Riley MLB Oakland (29)_6010 439 4.69 Rd4 2010 Waiting to see what happens with Pita Taumoepenu OLB/DE SF (23) 6010 243 4.67 Rd. 6 2017 Chris Smith DE Cincinati 6010 266 4.71 CIN 25 RD 5 2014 I would be absolutely giddy over DaQuan Jones DT/DE Titians (25) 6036 322 5.35 #90 R4 2014 Morgan Burnett SS/FS/CB/LB Packers (28) 6013 209 4.51 |

I think Kelemete can start in this league if he gets consistent reps at one position and get with the group. I don’t think we have had our entire starting line healthy for more than one or two games all year. You need consistency at that position group which hasn’t been possible with Armstead on the team. Would love a good sideline to sideline linebacker like Deon Jones. I disagree about the TE. Our 3rd down numbers would have been better with a legit TE to draw coverage (as long as it doesn’t become a consistent thing and forced. I would be down with Graham at the right price. He’s a better blocker now but wold still command respect. |

Needs in Free Agency
BPA in the draft Its how teams stay competitive |

As for linebacker - in my mind, this is a GLARING NEED. We are thin & at one point, we had our special teams ace STARTING (Robertson) in the middle. A good indicator of what direction a franchise is headed, look at a their contract. Craig has helped us no doubt but he's paid like a 'back up'. We'll make moves here. Moving to the safety position notice Hagan, Chris and Triman have mentioned Morgan Burnett's name more than a few times. Why you ask? .. Consistent production He can play the boundary, center field & also around the LOS He's coming from a good pedigree (GB) Level of play Attention to detail This would be his 3rd contact (possibly coming at a lower price and upgrade) Kenny has graded out as one of the worst safeties several years now. Inconsistent, bone headed decision making, suspensions etc. Deonne Buchannon & Mark Barron's are also upgrades at the position IMO. It will be interesting to see what the front office does with Kenny & how expensive he will be to retain but there are other options & upgrades if he does walk. |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
I have to ask my self, "Which statement is more true"? (Sorry been helping my girls with a lot of home work lately and I am starting to phrase my thoughts similarly lol)
1. The Saints are able to find talent and get the most value from their draft picks. 2. Mickey Loomis is capable of not overpaying a free agent. Personally I am going to have to go with the draft. Rarely does someone get all of their credit card debt paid off and not find a way to run it back up again. |

No, I'd be shocked if he did and that's why I had that option down the list at No. 4... But then again, who'd ever thought Lattimore would fall to us? I just think we need to keep our cap flexibility ready in the event that Lawrence hit the market... Know, Lord knows I know, we got burnt with signing the big shiny FA when we got the Byrd... But DeMarcus Lawrence, across from Cam Jordan - that'd be sick! But I just don't see Safeties Nor Linebackers hitting the market worth the money... I'd rather send a few people packing, pick up some more draft picks, and build through the draft... |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
DE - love Oak but hope to upgrade this spot
WR - love to see us go veteran here like Jarvis Landry SS who can roam the line and cover OG/OT of the future LB - still looking for my sideline to sideline athlete |

Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
Been doing some opposition research on the Cowboys, and boy are they vulnerable this off-season...
They've got three key players to re-sign on defense DE Demarcus Lawrence, DE/DT David Irving (RFA), LB Anthony Hitchens... Plus RG Zach Martin will be in the final year of his contract and the Cowboys will want to extend him... Cowboys are four-plus deep at DE - DeMarcus Lawrence, David Irving, Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton... And then there's prodigy Randy Gregory, his dope problems, but Charlton's selection may have been there tell... Figure there's a one-in-ten chance that they let Lawrence hit the open market, but I'd still be ready for a move... This is where it gets interesting... David Irving is a 6'7" LDE, playing 3DT, a 24yo RFA with 4 sacks and 4 FF in 2016 with 7 sacks and a FF in 2017... And MLB Anthony Hitchens who started slow in 2017 with a knee injury, replaced oft-injured Sean Lee at MLB... Hitchens is looking for a honest effort to compete at the MIKE and the Saints are now contenders for next season... The Cowboys are going to have to make a difficult decision and let at least one of these players likely go... We're in a very good position this offseason... Our three best FAs are Brees, Kelemete, and Vaccaro; then there's Okafor who had a late-season-ending injury... Only wildcard is some players really like playing for the Big Markets - NYC, Dallas, Atlanta and LA... |
Re: Saints Offseason Checklist
OT who can play guard like Peat. Understudy Center to Unger. DE and can always use another LB for competition.
