Drew has stated several times that he wants one year deals for the remainder of his career with the Saints. That gives both him and the Saints to re-evaluate each season.

I too heard Drew state many times he wants 1 year contracts. Does anyone know how this factors in with the 18 million cap hit for 2018? Sounds like a multi year contract is needed just to adjust that out, I am seriously not sure?

Easy. He just gets that $18M plus X amount for 2018 with a guaranteed payment in 2019. The same deal he just had, basically. Let's say he gets a one year $26M deal with $6M in 2018. He then receives $24M in 2018 and $20M guarantee in 2019. That can continue year to year. With the increasing cap his percentage of cap hit can actually decrease even though his annual pay increases if worked out correctly.

When he finally decides it is time to retire the futures cap hit would be offset by a rookie salaried QB probably even lowering the percentage allotted to the QB position.

This is just one possible solution. I am quite sure Loomis has plenty of options available.

A one year deal can be structured as a two year deal with the second year automatically voided to accomplish the future guarantee.

Miles brennon from LSU. He will be a sophomore this next year which works out perfectly. Brees is not going anywhere for the next 3 years.
