Stay or go, whatever thanks for the memories. I don’t care who’s under Center next year as long as it’s the best man for the job. I would part ways with Brees in a heartbeat if it meant another ring. Some people would be fine with just making the playoffs as long as Brees was still Qb.

Yay! Another off season full of the Brees contract issue. At least we don't have listen to the media saying Payton is on the "hot seat" again.
Just hurry up and sign Brees so we don't have to listen to the "rumors" and all the other bs. |

Brees is with us for at least one season - to become the All-Time Passing Yardage Leader - you can bet the house on it...
Saints as a franchise needs this kind of history in its plummage... Criticism I have is why the Saints didn't redo his deal two seasons back when... one, we needed cap room and defensive ends were abound in the FA market, and... two, a fifth grader could figure our what season Brees was going to become the All-Time PaYd Leader... |

Quote:
1. Brees current contract averages $24.5 million/year. 2. Top NFL contracts are in the $27.5 million/year range now. 3. The Saints are already on the hook for $18 million from the last contract in dead money no matter if Brees is on the squad or not. $20 million a year for a top 5 NFL QB is a pay cut. Period. End of discussion. Brees holds all the cards. I think that thought frustrates some of you. Let me give you some perspective. Kirk Cousins may get his third (and final) franchise tag with Washington this spring. That tag is worth $34.5 million. Brees cannot be tagged (per contract). If he could it would be his 3rd tag too. And he's better than Cousins. So I'd suggest that everyone get that weak $20 million/year number out of here and start thinking in the current 2018 world where the team salary cap is in fact going to be about $180 million. Brees showed with his last contract that he understands the balance between getting top NFL QB money and managing the salary cap so that other parts of the team can be shored up. Expect the next contract to be similar to the previous one in structure: high guaranteed up front money, longer terms to spread out the cap hit, voidable years. In short a 1-2 year contract that's 4-5 years on paper. But it'll be at higher money than the last one, not less money. SFIAH |

Drew knows that he could break the bank but he won't because he wants to win. If he doesn't have the supporting cast then he won't perform as well. Just look at Brady and see how making a little less still pays off big time.

I say pay the man. Most of the rest of our important players are rookies or on their rookie contract.
