Big Game "Realistic" for Our Saints

They were close enough to sniff the Super Bowl this season, despite finishing with 10 projected starters on injured reserve. And they should only get better, since they were led by a breakout rookie class that included both the NFL’s Offensive and Defensive Rookies of the Year in running back Alvin Kamara and cornerback Marshon Lattimore and three other starters.

Saints have rebuilt another Super Bowl contender around Drew Brees - New Orleans Saints Blog- ESPN

Re: Big Game "Realistic" for Our Saints

I didn't realize that we finished the season with 10 starters on IR. That's a pretty heavy hit to the talent on the field and the finished product. Still, every team has injuries and I think we were around the league average for injuries. I thank Jeff Ireland for building our roster to be able to be competitive with 10 back ups in the line up.

He's right about this years draft capitol. At 27 the value isn't here that we had last year picking at 11. Without a second rounder we will have to package some lower picks to target a player we covet which has worked well for us lately. I would rather walk away with a small impact draft than a lot of developmental players.

Actually, that's conservative because we had twenty starters and or player with significant minutes played per game lost...

Injuries are of no excuse - but I'd sure like to see us do something as this is the second year in a row of significant injuries...

Yep. Philly pretty much threw the injury excuse out of the window.

But I will say, they have a lot of talent & depth.

I don't know... I tend to think the way we have been drafting I don't care where or how many picks we have we are going to find a rookie of the year canidate. The question is who is it???

At least our shopping list doesn't look like swiss cheese this coming season.
We can at least focus on key positions instead of building a whole new platoon.

Correction: I just read an article that placed us third on the injury list this year and we were fourth last year. That's a substantial number of players missing some playing time and other players winding up on IR. We have definitely been hit by the injury bug and the strength and conditioning is one of the last systems in place that hasn't been over hauled. Maybe it's time.

We have new doctors.....so hopefully we won't have anymore misdiagnosed injuries. That alone matters. Delvin Breaux was lost for the season and should have been available early in the season with the proper diagnosis and treatment with a plate that fit the injury.

My hats off to the Eagles because even with our young defense we wouldn't sniff the play offs without Drew.

Doctors don't sign FAs and Doctors don't draft players. We can lay the blame for lack of depth on poor moves by the front office.
