Never impressed with Vilma JP? Huh?

When healthy, Jonathan was an absolute STUD in the middle. No way we even sniff a World Championship in 09 without him. He was a key piece and it was a 100% payoff in the trade. Fujita and Shanle were good pieces but hardly the caliber of JV. He was special.

I agree with 76 ... this team needs to continue to look for the next Vilma in the middle.

Sorry, I didn't mean to hi jack your original TE thread with the linebacker talk.

We were that bad at linebacker in the middle before Vilma; and I don't remember the Saints defense shutting down anyone that year...

I do remember the secondary led by Sharper creating a lot of turnovers...

Unless...

He’s going late first round to early second. If we are lucky, we could trade back a few spots and still grab him. Honestly I wouldn’t be upset if we snagged him at 28. Think he’s our Olsen or ertz

Anyways, Free Agent pickings at Tight End are slim this year...
  1. Trey Burton, Eagles, 26yo
  2. Jimmy Graham, Seahawks, 31yo
  3. Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, Jets, 25yo
  4. Tyler Eifert, Bengals, 27yo
  5. Cameron Brate, Buccaneers, 27yo
  6. Troy Niklas, Cardinals, 26 yo

I'm not as concerned about this position as others may be as we had an outstanding offense with the group we had...

However, I do believe we should draft or sign a big bodied TE who can post up in the red zone and on third downs and prefer that over drafting a WR high in the draft where our priorities should be the defensive front seven...

I think we need a total retool at TE!

I agree with this. Also the reason we struggled in the red zone early on until Payton found the run game. We play some good defenses next year and we need the option of going to a reliable TE.
Our blocking is fine.

I'd prefer this to the Falcons; but I think the Saints drive up the signing price tag...

I like all of those TE possibilities with the exception of TYLER EIFERT. Saints won't touch this guy in FA. Good talent but he's missed 22 games in the past two seasons  & has yet to show any consistency.

We need to draft DE, LB, OL more than TE. Brees only has a short amount of time remaining. JG may be 31 but is still a great option because of that. B. Watson was older and had a better season than any TE we currently have. Someone will likely overpay so it's a moot point and we may just stick with Fleener.
