Curious to see how it goes with Payton saying they see Natrell Jamerson as an outside CB.

True. Looks like a very versatile (WR/CB & S) player. I wonder if he's that guy who pushes Crawley at camp ?

His versatility could win him a job on the 53 man roster.

I think there will be alot of competition in training camp and that's a good thing. Put the runner ups on the practice squad for emergencies like last year.

Actually, I think it did. Fleener caught 70% of his targets last season. That’s the highest rate of his career. And I don’t remember any big drops from him. Last season his problem was availability. None of the other TEs factored in much either so suspect TE was an afterthought most of the time in the scheme last year.

Re: 2018 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

I really think the team strengthened the roster tremendously this off season. Meredith, Savage, Clapp, Leonard, Davis, Coleman, Davenport, Smith and look at the guys we're getting back. I feel good about the season right now. I still think we need to sign Hankins on a one year deal and a DT with our first pick next year.

Wisconsin moved him to Safety and he flourished; he was an absolute ball hawk at the Senior Bowl as a Safety...

So now Payton wants to prove he can outthink everyone by playing him at Safety? Wow.

This reminds me of Mora in his later years where he wanted to make rocket science out of football...

^^^^ these should be epic battles at camp. I'm really hoping Crawley & PJ are pushed by the rookies. The progression of Maulet & rookie Jamerson (I really like how versatile he is).

Side note - IMO Banjo and Hardee were above average in 2017 on special teams.

I have a feeling that Tom Savage may surprise some people. When I watched him play I was impressed with his moxy. If we keep three QB's we need a veteran back up who has played in the NFL before and can manage the game. I don't trust a rookie and I don't know if Hill is just an excellent athlete. Or does he have the potential to be a great QB as well?

Agree with Rugs, at the very least, with the Payton Quarterback Coaching Factor, Tom Savage will be a tough out this Fall and Tayson will have to light it up...

Looks like we officially have 10 UDFA’s under contract at the moment...

Saints waive four players in addition to releasing Coby Fleener | NOLA.com

After cutting the four young players on Monday, they had a chance to officially sign four other undrafted rookies that had already agreed to deals -- Colorado offensive tackle Jeromy Irwin, Tempe wide receiver Keith Kirkwood, Oregon defensive tackle Henry Mondeaux and Western Kentucky tight end Deon Yelder.

That brings the Saints up to 10 undrafted rookies officially signed. Last week, they inked deals with Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, South Carolina guard Cory Helms, Cincinnati defensive back Linden Stephens, Minnesota tight end Nate Wozniak, Mississippi State defensive back J.T. Gray and Tennessee linebacker Colton Jumper.

Probably didn't know until they got him "in house" for the physical. They have only had a chance to physically vet those players they saw at the combines or brought in as one of their official thirty visits.

AG, with just the drama of the last two seasons, I'd thought they'd done the physical before signing him or that the signing would be conditional per physical...

Now it could be the latter is what happened, but our roving beat reporters are not indicating that at his release...

Well, no excuses now, if Okafor is healthy, we've got the pass rushers now to make it an honest pass rush...

For a quick second I forgot about Trey. He did some good things but more importantly he gained valuable playing time. I expect him to be better in season #2. Having good to above average pass rushers is always a good thing come late December/January.

Side note - any news on the rehab with Okafor this off season? The initial "burst" is critical at his position. He's relatively young so hopefully he will heal fast.

Now it could be the latter is what happened, but our roving beat reporters are not indicating that at his release...

We apparently claimed Theus off waivers back on February 28 when he was released by the Panthers. We never really "signed" him. It could have been something present at the time and the Saints were just waiting to see how it worked out. It didn't cost the Saints anything (other than a roster spot) because his contract was being paid by the 49er's, his original team.

I read some time back that he was well ahead of schedule. It said something about possibly being ready as early as June.

Source: Saints to re-sign resurgent defensive end Alex Okafor | Saints | theadvocate.com

Okafor signed with the Saints last year on a one-year deal and was enjoying a breakout season before suffering a torn Achilles in November. He finished the year with 4 1/2 sacks through 10 games.

He is said to be recovering well from the injury and the hope is that he'll be ready to play by the start of the season. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis was even more optimistic, placing the timeline at the start of training camp during an appearance on WWL radio.

John Fullington, Landon Turner, and Ryan Ramcyzk were at Strief's retirement party a few weeks back. Fullington is a really nice guy. He and Turner are no where near Ram's size. I was standing next to Ram when talking to Fullington and didn't even realize someone was next to me until Fullington pointed him out. And someone in NOLA knows how to make some serious "Skyline" chili. I asked Strief about it and he didn't name the chef/caterer. If you've never had it, order some :)
