The New Orleans Saints boast a highly capable quartet of safeties on the roster despite personnel turnover during free agency.
Rafael Bush signed with the Buffalo Bills, while Kenny Vaccaro wasn’t brought back. Nevertheless, the Saints are more than fine with returning players in the form of Vonn Bell, Marcus Williams and special teams ace Chris Banjo. The Saints also signed proven veteran Kurt Coleman to a three-year deal to help offset the losses of Bush and Vaccaro, and signed former LSU standout Rickey Jefferson to a reserve/future contract. With Williams and Bell locked in on rookie contracts, the Saints don’t have an immediate need in the early rounds of the draft. But adding a player would be wise when considering the team only has five safeties currently on the roster ahead of organized team activities (OTAs) and training camp. The below concludes a 10-part predraft series with a look at safeties. SAFETY DEPTH CHART Vonn Bell Marcus Williams Kurt Coleman Chris Banjo Rickey Jefferson (reserve/future) Potential Day 1 (first round) selections Derwin James, Florida State Ronnie Harrison, Alabama Justin Reid, Stanford Potential Day 2 (rounds 2-3) selections Terrell Edmunds, Virginia Tech Marcus Allen, Penn State Rashaan Gaulden, Tennessee Jessie Bates III, Wake Forest Potential Day 3 (rounds 4-7) selections Siran Neal, Jacksonville State DeShon Elliott, Texas Troy Apke, Penn State Kyzir White, West Virginia Jordan Whitehead, Pittsburgh Godwin Igwebuike, Northwestern Quin Blanding, Virginia Natrell Jamerson, Wisconsin read more on NOLA Last edited by SmashMouth; 04-25-2018 at 10:01 AM.. |

Re: New Orleans Saints predraft depth chart: Safety
I like the FA signing of Coleman but Vonn Bell needs to step it up this year. It would never hurt to draft another SS ... preferably before the start of round 5.
Side note - Banjo was very good on special teams last season. |

Re: New Orleans Saints predraft depth chart: Safety
Kenny came in like gang busters that first year then he got concussed. Was never the same after that. Last year was getting more aggressive but got hurt. I’d take him back after draft cheap. If he gets big money and years on a poor team he’ll tank. Trick is giving him a real goal and possibilities otherwise a waste of money.

Re: New Orleans Saints predraft depth chart: Safety
Safety is not a need. Hit up some UDFA and store them on the practice squad. If an injury occurs look into FA. We have a chance to solidify our team this draft. Dont waste picks.

Jeremy Reaves could be had in the 7th. Small school prospect from Alabama.

Re: New Orleans Saints predraft depth chart: Safety
I'm not sold on our SS. Bell is nothing special to me. We need another player who can play in the box or play deep with the two high safety look to go with Williams.
