Guessing Our 1st Pick

If we stay at 27, I'm going TE. We can land a turn key TE right there and get a serviceable DT or DE in the 3rd. Really no point either in trading up or down back into the second. The value is there in the remaining rounds.

This draft does in fact have a good TE class. I'll take Gesicki or Andrews. Get an edge rusher or DT in the 3rd. 4th a LB and 5th rolling the dice on Ballage. Rest is whatever. Likely won't make this team anyway.

I'd like to see D line, O line or LB at 27. I'm not gonna get too upset over any pick though really. We're in pretty good shape in most areas. I'd rather it not be a QB since he likely won't see the field this year, or next..or the year after that even maybe, but whatever.

No idea. Probably someone nobody saw coming a week ago like Calvin Ridley.

Re: Guessing Our 1st Pick

I have 3 I’d like at 27

Gesicki - 4.5 speed, 6’5” frame, 42” vert with soft hands. Sounds like 10 TDs to me.

R Evans - plays all 3 positions. Covers, has speed, rushes the QB well.

Harold Landry - speed and bend that could generate QB pressure on day 1. He’ll fall due to questions about injuries. I’d happily welcome him.

Will Hernandez :p.

Not my personal choice but I see a pick @ 27 that will take us all by surprise.

DT Phillips Stanford. Everyone on the DL outside of Jordan and an under producing Rankins are role players. Phillips is a high character and motor guy. And he produced on the field.

I’m saying Davenport or goedart. Both are needs and will fill In nicely

I agree. I think they go OL. It's not sexy, but drafting a Guard, Center or Tackle would not only provide depth, but drafting Ram saved our ass last year.

Wishing for Vita, most likely it will be Hurst.

Later draft pick hopefully are Shaquem Griffin and Parry Nickerson

I can definitely see Hernandez being an option and I'd probably like it.

I'm on the Vander Esch train. I don't really want to the pick to be a TE personally.

Re: Guessing Our 1st Pick

Guess the 27th pick? Are we getting Good Payton/Loomis/Ireland or Bad Damn-it-Sean & the Mickster?

Payton was awkwardly showboating at the Zurich yesterday and I'm worried his hubris is surging and he's in Icarus mode again...

Unless we're jumping the ATL et al for Taven Bryan, who may geaux even sooner, or Vander Esch, I'm moving back...

Picking in the early second, picking up a third round pick, maybe even upgrading one of the third day picks...

Then I'm looking for some of these - DE Sam Hubbard, DT Harrison Phillips, C Frank Ragnow, G Billy Price, LB Josey Jewell...

Re: Guessing Our 1st Pick

I think at least two of the top TE's will be there mid second round.
hoping we make a move, because I don't think Gesicki or the others are worth it at 27

I hope they aren't thinking OL or DL or TE or LB or QB or DB, etc. I hope they do what they have done the past two seasons and select whatever player, regardless of position, that is at the very top of their board based upon their overall evaluations.

We're in a different wheelhouse than a year ago personnel-wise, so need is actually much more important to round out the roster...

But in sync with what you're saying, if value's not there at 27, that is, we're not improving a position, then move up or down...

How do you really truly know if there is value or not, however?

I have this sneaking suspicion that they are selecting Lamar Jackson, trading up if need be...

I really hope I'm wrong!

Based on your scouting, grades, and your groupings (i.e. clouds)...

So you're prepared to draft, you have about five possibilities all with comparable grades to select...

If it gets close and your guys aren't there, you move back...

Or if a member of a higher grade group is there and is falling, you jump back in and take him (i.e. Kamara)...

I could see Lamar in the mix but no longevity in that style.

First Round Picks should be your 10+ years with the team guys...

Remind me how long did RGIII last with the Redskins before they went with their fourth round pick (Cousins) from the same draft?

At least Shanahan kept a back up plan in place..

Center or Guard. We have no depth and when Strief went down Ram was a god send. Armstead is in and out of games. Peat broke his leg last year and may not be in shape either. Unger is 32 and missed all of last preseason. As the offensive line goes so goes the team........you win in the trenches.

Re: Guessing Our 1st Pick

Call me crazy, but I don't think we're desperate at TE. As long as the 1st pick isn't QB, I'll be happy. But I'd like to see a guard that can play center or a center that can play guard, if a pass rusher or elite LB isn't available with the first pick.

If it is TE, I like Hurst from SC better than Goedert, but a guy I like for later is Ian Thomas from Indiana.

Since the team never seems to put priority on LB since the dome patrol, with the exception of Vilma, I don't think they'll pick a LB in the first round.

My prediction, if they stay at 27, is either Lorenzo Carter or Josh Sweat.

Whodat!!

Re: Guessing Our 1st Pick

Back from Lunch - Okay, here's the thing about a possible move up...

Last year's No. 27 pick was Kansas City, who jumped the Saints, in a trade with Buffalo to take QB Patrick Mahomes...

KC got the No. 10 pick, Mahomes; Buffalo got the 27th pick, LSU CB Tre'Davious White, the 91st pick in the third they traded to the Rams, and this year's No. 22 pick...

Buffalo got one helluva CB and the jury's out until tonight on the other pick...

Saints now have some history to see if they could move all the way up by giving up a first round pick, their 3rd round pick, and their 2019 pick...

And, Sean Payton's good friend, John Gruden and his Raiders are sitting at No. 10 this year!

Now they're seeing which teams ahead of them would be willing to make that deal...

But Jeff Duncan (only saavy sports writer that the TP has) makes a great point - Saints will move up for a disruptive pass rusher, defender - not a quarterback...

Re: Guessing Our 1st Pick

The other side of this is - While it makes sense for the Saints to do their due diligence, Who leak this out there? and Why?

Makes sense for one of the teams up there to leak it - to drive the market price higher...

But would the Saints want it leaked? If so, why? Possibly to get Division rivals the ATL and the Big Bad Black Cats to panic and move up? Maybe.

Or maybe it's to create a vacuum for Days 2 & 3 where there's an abundance of starting talent...
