As happy as he was to receive a phone call from the New Orleans Saints on Day 3 of the Draft, Boston Scott's mom might have been even more excited.

"My mom is a crazy Saints fan," the former Louisiana Tech standout said. "We always watched the Saints growing up. I've never been to a Saints' game but we've always been Saints fans."

His family will now be rooting for him to make the roster of the team they love after New Orleans made him their second sixth-round pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.

The 5-foot-6, 203-pound standout was taken by the Saints with the 201st overall pick following the teams' selection of Boston College defensive back Kamrin Moore and was the first Bulldog selected in this year's draft.

"This is just surreal," Scott said shortly after being drafted. "This is going to be an incredible opportunity and I'm definitely going to make the most of it."

Scott said he heard from the Saints pretty consistently leading up to the draft and that members of the staff came to Baton Rouge to put him through a workout.

He said he was expecting the workout to focus mostly on special teams as that's what coaches discussed with him but he was put "through the gauntlet." The Saints had Scott run bag drills, receiving drills and pass protections.

The former Louisiana Tech walk-on said he'd put in extra work throughout his career on special teams drills as he anticipated that being his route to the NFL. He said that even though he did not field punts in the games, he practiced the drills.

"I knew that if I went on to the league that the way that I would get on and start contributing immediately is through special teams," Scott said. "Whether that's running down field on punt returns, returning punts, returning kicks ... and I just wanted to make sure that whenever I got my opportunity I was going to be the best equipped to do that."

Scott said he's excited to get in the Saints' running back room and learn from Pro Bowlers Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram and is hoping that he can make good on comparisons he drew during the draft process to a former Saints' running back in Darren Sproles.

I can’t figure out what I love more about the first highlight video: Boston Scott breaking all those long runs or the Chance the Rapper song that’s playing in the background.

Poor man's Darren Sproles...

Question is - Will he have Sproles' work ethic or Marcus Murphy's attitude?

The article said former walk on so he must have a good work ethic and it had to build character also. I'm definitely rooting for him.

Love the pick. The 'experts' didn't have him drafted, but he is a value with the 6th pick. I saw him play on TV a few times & from the stands, and dude is a talented back. Can produce in the passing game, too...very versatile.

Don't sleep on Boston.

Stupid speed & good vision. He'll definitely challenge someone for a special teams spot (TLL and/or Lasco). Outside of stature, I'm not seeing the Sproles comparison. This cat runs like a dawg and is powerful.

With Sean Payton as your play caller in this offense ? ... dangerous. He could be a diamond in the rough.
