We could have been Seattle who nearly took Rashaad Penny where they were originally slotted... Time will tell, but a little insight on Penny adjusting to the NFL... While I was scouting TE David Wells for the Saints, he was used almost always as a blocker... The Aztecs made sure that Penny didn't (and was often the case) receive contact until he was already two yards over the line of scrimmage... San Diego State often lined up in heavy packages, even with an extra tackle, to power the ball downfield... Am curious to see if Penny has success with the rebuilding project, dumpster fire of an offensive line the Seahawks have... So as much as I disliked our first three picks, moves - it could be worse for those who disliked the Saints' 2018 draft haul... Last edited by jeanpierre; 05-01-2018 at 11:36 AM.. |

Re: Did Saints reach for Florida State's Rick Leonard? Agent: New Orleans outmaneuvered competition
Still some growth b/c of lack of experience on offensive side of the ball. Didn't hear that part?
I said "basically" what SP said. Needs growth coupled with relatively little experience on OL. Still don't like the pick at all with the amount of talented & experienced TEs, LBs & DTs on the board. |

I expect Davis to have FAR more impact for the Saints defense than any LB outside of the first round. And we have a very competent rotation of DT's available especially with the addition of Davenport to draw the extra attention.

Re: Did Saints reach for Florida State's Rick Leonard? Agent: New Orleans outmaneuvered competition
I think the part that is missing in all this is, where the Saints had players on there board. This is the thing we all have zero clue about. So if Leonard was higher on our board than others, we did the right thing. It may look bad to others but as far as the Saints concern, they followed there board and trusted the scouts who scouted the players.

Re: Did Saints reach for Florida State's Rick Leonard? Agent: New Orleans outmaneuvered competition
I'm very thankful to get The Clapp with 7th Rd pick for that G/C depth. And we now have 5 OTs...Armstead, Ram, Peat, Bushrod, and Leonard. Since Slick Rick is a Saint, I only hope the best turn out for the kid.
However, I choose not to put complete blind optimistic faith in whatever our FO does. They've made amazing drafts/signings, but they've also made some really dumb ones, too. They're not the Almighty Infallible. |

Re: Did Saints reach for Florida State's Rick Leonard? Agent: New Orleans outmaneuvered competition
SP said nothing to indicate he'd be an OG. But I'm done talking bout a 4th Rd pick. Everyone knows my opinion & my reasoning behind it. I'll spare the forum bickering bout a dude who hasn't even been on a Saints practice field. Hope he destroys my opinion for the good of the team.
