Lions reportedly rebuff Redskins’ trade offer
PFW
The Washington Times reported Wednesday that the Redskins offered their first-round pick (No. 13 overall) and CB Fred Smoot for the Lions’ first- and second-round picks (No. 2 and 34, respectively) and two unnamed veteran players, but the proposal was rejected by Lions brass. The Redskins deny making an offer to the Lions. Many are speculating the Redskins would make such a move to draft a receiver like Michigan State’s Charles Rogers or Andre Johnson of Miami (Fla.) PFW: Who would have won in this rumored trade? Wilkening: The Redskins. They would have gotten the impact wide receiver they’ve been looking for while picking up a high second-round pick plus two players. I can see why the Lions would want no part of such a deal. Smoot is a good player, and he would help the Lions’ secondary, but the Lions’ front office would have a hard time explaining how they traded down 11 spots and threw in other players to give another team Charles Rogers. |
