Looking ahead to next year...A QB's Draft????

I've heard it said that next year won't be as deep a draft as this year. I call BS. This year was actually considered to be shallow, but a lot of good value. Next year will be stacked at some positions, namely QB.

Some or all of these guys could come out.

Brad Smith - Missouri
Matt Leinart - USC
Marcus Vick - Va. Tech
Vince Young - Texas
Charlie Whitehurst - Clemson
Reggie McNeal - Texas A&M
Chris Leak - Florida

Assuming at the very best that each one of these guys decided to come out, even with a playoff year, we should be in a position to snag one of these guys. With AB's contract getting ready to ballon out of control, it will probably be best to part ways with him, assuming he won't restructure, which I am almost certain he won't.

Looking ahead to next year...A QB's Draft????

Before we spend a high draft pick on a QB, I am more certain they will give McPherson a shot if he shows them anything at all that says he can play. I have been harping for Matt Leinart since before the draft, but with AM, he deserves his chance. Unless AB goes to the pro bowl this year, or takes us deep into the playoffs ala Brees, and cuts out the stupid mistakes, I highly doubt he will be here after next year regardless without a pay cut.

Looking ahead to next year...A QB's Draft????

Well somebody told you wrong... this years draft was one of the deepest in years! Why do you think there wasn\'t much movement of teams trying to snag players as usual... aside from a couple of teams. There were players that was just as good rated 2-3-4 even 5 deep that you could have taken at certain positions... there were a lot of players rated very tightly.
Ok you rank QB\'s if they were to come out and aside from a couple none of them will go in the first round, and you only covered QB\'s. Look at all the positions overall. Marcus Vick are you serious?
AM will end up the starter if he develops as projected and that may take a couple of years. I don\'t see a need to draft one of them. However I wouldn\'t rule it out either because you should get the best player on the board. I also like Kingsbury, if you get a chance to see him in training camp this year do it. He is developing into a good QB.

Hey...nice to hear from you bro.

I really wouldn\'t call this year\'s draft deep. I\'d call it a value draft, in that players could be obtained in the later rounds that had similar talent to the guys in the first round. The thing is that the guys that went in the first round this year might have gone in the second or third round next year. I call a deep draft a draft where you can get potential superstar talent in the 3rd and 4th rounds. You really can\'t say that there were those type of players this year, therefore I wouldn\'t call this a deep draft.

Take for instance the QB position. Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers would have easily have been second rounders had they come out next year. You see how far Rodgers dropped. If he was in a crop with Leinart, Smith, Vick, and Leak, he might have gone to the 3rd or 4th round. The talent level wasn\'t that high at QB.

And you do watch college football don\'t you??? Leinart....well we need not even go there. He should be 1 overall next year. Brad Smith could be 2. Vince Young is amazing and has #1 talent, but probably won\'t come out next year. Leak...the same. He is a future NFL star. Vick is the best athlete in college football bar none and will be a first round selection, QB or not. I would call that stacked.

I think if one of these QBs fell to us next year, we would be hard pressed not to take him. They would\'ve picked an Alex Smith had he fallen to us. Also, there\'s no reason we should hang our hat on AM and put all of our eggs in one basket. Good teams have foresight. We got AM for a 5th rounder, basically for nothing. If he turns out to be golden, a QB that we take next year could be great trade bait for a later year. If AM is a bust overall, then we have another QB to get started with. And next year is the best year when we can get a top notch QB for less than a top 10 pick. It\'s this type of forward planning that the Saints should start thinking about.

Actually I can see what you are trying to say GT but... a draft with a lot of good value is considered shallow? I think you mean there aren\'t many superstar Probowl quality players. But this draft was pretty deep and will produce solid NFL players.

You forgot to Tate and Jacobs. My guess is either Leinart or Tate will be the first quarterback taken off the board. Wouldn\'t it be sick if you could see either Leinart, Tate, or Jacobs throwing passing to Detriot\'s receiving corps? That\'s sick.

As far a Leak, McNeal, Smith, Whitehurst, Zanbransky... they still have a lot to prove to even consider being drafted the anywhere near the 3rd/4th round. But you never know... if Campbell can make that significant improvement over a year, I don\'t see why these guys couldn\'t either.

As for Young, sure he\'s electric... but he still needs to develop his arm. Right now the guy is all run and his passing is horrible. They say he\'s been throwing very well in spring so if he can continue to develop this aspect of the game, he\'s a wildcard first round choice.

We only saw a small glimpse of Vick during his freshman year and he looked pretty impressive. I doubt he\'ll declare after missing a whole year of football and with all that baggage. He should play a full year this year, mature, rebuild his reputation, and return for his senior year... then declare. It\'s not like the Vick family needs any more money ASAP. Talent is there... but not anywhere near his brother.

Ok you rank QB\'s if they were to come out and aside from a couple none of them will go in the first round
Doesn\'t a couple go in the first round every year? I think GT means there is a lot of depth at the qb position that will likely declare. He doesn\'t mean all of them are going to go in the first round.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

Poop you responded before I posted mines...

Wow I\'m amazed you have Smith ranked that high... there are a couple of guys I would rank before him. He\'s ok, but he\'s not THAT good... not even close.

Hey papz....I respect your opinion, though I don\'t necessarily agree with it.

A premium is placed on players with Vick-like talent. They didn\'t have any of these type of QBs to come out this year. That\'s why you will see QB fever next year in the draft. When Vick came out, his actual QB skills were questionable(and still are to this day). However, there is no doubt that he is setting the trend for today\'s NFL QB. EVERYONE will be trying to get one of these players with Vick-like athletic ability. Teams that immediately come to mind would be Arizona, Oakland, Miami, Chicago, Tampa Bay, Tennesee, Detroit, and possibly New Orleans. You don\'t think these teams will spend a first round pick on the \"next big thing\"???? Regardless on where these guys are as far as their QB progression is, teams will be more than willing to snag these guys up based on their potential alone.

Brad Smith definitely fits that bill. His college career has been more impressive than Vick\'s. He will be a top 5 pick. Mark my words.

I wouldn\'t be suprised to see Marcus Vick declare. The wisest decision would be for him to stay in school, but I don\'t think he will. He probably would have come out last year if he could have. He is a project at QB, but is an even better athlete than Michael is, having watched him. No telling what he will be drafted as, but he will go in the first round on reputation alone.

Vince Young is the same. Amazing athlete, with tremendous upside. Same for Leak. These guys will be drafted, and very highly drafted.

It\'s the closest you\'ll ever see in the NFL to the phenomena that has unproven high schoolers going to the NBA. It won\'t make much sense in the eyes of some, but the teams will do it.

Wow that\'s a bold predicting. This guy\'s career pass completetion percentage is 50-55 percent (doesn\'t bold well in the NFL) and lead his team to a 5-6 record. His rush yard per carry last year was a measly 3.4. I think you are kind of in love with Vick like talent. I\'ve watched quite a few Mizzou games last year, and although he has a pretty good arm... I was far from impressed. His accuracy isn\'t there and look the amount of points Mizzou put up last year. Maybe it was just a bad year... but from season\'s past, he did perform better.

I\'m not trying to knock you on him or anything, my views on him are based strictly from last season. Maybe it was an off year for him and maybe I\'ll get to see a glimpse of him in which you see in him this year. I\'ll follow him throughout the season.

In my opinion... Drew Tate, Matt Leinart, Omar Jacobs > Brad Smith.

A premium is placed on players with Vick-like talent.
Most of whom has/had to switch positions to make an impact in the NFL. Prime example Antawn Randal El... very similiar in production. Only think different btw them is size.

I wouldn\'t be suprised to see Marcus Vick declare. The wisest decision would be for him to stay in school, but I don\'t think he will. He probably would have come out last year if he could have. Whoa there... the only think Marcus has on Michael is accuracy from what I saw in his freshman year. He\'s not close of being as elusive as Michael nor can he whip the ball down field like his brother.

I\'m not saying I\'m right and you are wrong, or you are right and I\'m wrong... let\'s just see how they do during the year and go from there. But you have definately got me more interested in Smith... hopefully he\'ll prove you right and me wrong because I love watching young players develop.

the OT class is awesome as well. I would love to get mcneil from auburn.. pretty much the reason that auburn\'s rbs and qb were drafted so High

and another reason that I think that we could have gone defense this year-but worst case scenario we could get brown and another guy next year...and move stich to guard-what a line for years to come.
