Back in New Orleans again, Patrick Robinson adjusting to nickel role in more aggressive Saints defense

Re: Back in New Orleans again, Patrick Robinson adjusting to nickel role in more aggressive Saints defense
The slot is where most teams did their passing damage to our defense. In theory, signing PRob should fix this; plus, I like the idea of reclaiming a lost pick...
One foreseeable problem per the article, Patrick Robinson revealed Dennis Allen has asked him to do more man-to-man than zone as he'd done in Philadelphia... Once again, asking a guy to change what he does well raises the eyebrow at the least; so we'll have to temper expectations while Robinson hopefully adjusts... |

On the flip side, PRob is a slot corner. Something we lacked big time last season. D Allen is a smart man and no fool. Better believe Dennis & A Glenn will play the man to his strengths to make him successful like he was in Philly last year.
I'm not going to read too much into that Advocate article. Especially in mid June when we hadn't even hit camp yet. |

^^^^^ PRob played man in Philly & also a lot of zone ... with a lot of man concepts. Same could be said here in New Orleans. He has ability to "man up" if required. According to PFF (if you believe in stats), his best year was under Williams scheme (in a lot ways closer to Dennis Allen scheme). When Spaggs came, it went down hill and then on top of that he was injured & confidence was lost.
Saints coaches liked what they saw in PRob & there was plenty of tape on him in man last season. I don't think he' be here if he wasn't capable. Where's Rez?? Again .. it's June. RELAX :smokin:. |

He’ll be fine. For one, he comes up and tackles. That’s important in the slot. Also, he’s a lot better at getting his head around so he can make a play on the ball. He’s not the same guy he was when he left us. We may run a lot of man, but zone concepts will be involved as well. I really like him in the slot while we’re in a Cover 2. He’s good at following the eyes of the QB.

Thanks for chiming in Rez. I know you understand the position better than most so appreciate the insight. |

I can't believe that we could have three top tier corner backs on the field at the same time. P Rob should help alleviate our 3rd down struggles while Lattimore and Crawley blanket their receivers. It's going to be hard to throw against the Saints this year I do believe!

Davenport coming off the other edge of Jordan and Rankins in his 3rd year pushing the middle is going to do wonders for a secondary that’s already REALLY good and trending upward.

Crawley through four or five games to start the season, was the No. 1 rated CB in the league - the entire league...
Lattimore was an instant success as all early first round picks should be (ahem, Sheldon Rankins)... Where it wasn't getting done was the slot - and that's now been addressed with bring back Patrick Robinson... If the interior Pass Rush can help the one-man wrecking krewe that was Cam Jordan, we may see teams score 13 pts or less on us on a regular basis... |

Did he say if he listened to us we would get him high?

Bradford - wk 1 Tom Brady - wk 2 Fig Newton - wk 3 Cutler - wk 4 Highland Park (Stafford) wk - 5 IMO Ken has solidified himself as a very respectful solid #2 corner at the elite level. Jabari Greer 2.0?? Not bad for an undrafted guy coming out of college. Keep grinding. |

With the signing of Patrick Robinson, will be curious to see how this percentage might change...

Wonder if Payton is looking at Jamerson to be that third slot/corner/safety?
