Banjo is great special teamer; but at safety you have Mr. Marcus, Coleman (the good one), and then Bell and Banjo?!? See what I mean?!? I'd prefer a young safety in that group; if he can play nickel, that's great too... |

Should Brees to Thomas be the best connection in football this year, Lattimore is gonna feel like games are in slo-motion...

Why does everyone outside the Saints Duchy worry about this more than Saints fans?!? Is not having Mark an issue? Yes. Have we ever won games without him? :dunce: But to suggest Tre'Quan Smith as a RB?!? |

Re: 2018 New Orleans Saints Training Camp
Take One: Modest Practice It terms of overall energy...maybe it’s because the freshness of camp has worn off and it’s starting to feel like a grind... Take two: Offense outplays defense in red zone Red zone made up the majority of the team work, and the offense clearly outplayed the defense here. Drew Brees threw a dime to Michael Thomas on a slot fade for a touchdown. Tom Savage connected with Boston Scott in the flat for a score. Taysom Hill hit Josh Huff in the end zone. Then, Brees hit Alvin Kamara on an option route for a touchdown that was almost too easy. Overall, the defense had gotten the upper hand in the last few practices. So, it was good to see the offense battle back Thursday. Take Three: Cold Truck The Saints had a new arrival at camp Thursday...a cold truck (basically the back of an 18-wheeler). The temperature is 25 degrees inside and designed to help player get their core temperature...Payton told me after it only takes five to ten minutes to get the players core temperature down to the desired 98.6 degrees..Recovery is everything in camp... Take Four: Loewen closes practice with impact Mitchell Loewen had an eventful close to practice. He had a sack of Tom Savage then got into a scuffle with Trevor Darling after a play. On the final play, Loewen sacked J.T. Barrett. Loewen is an intriguing player in that he can play end and three technique tackle. His strongest position may be at the three-tech. He actually made the team last year but spent it on injured reserve. Take Five: Other Observations

If Robinson stumbles, you call Dennis Allen on his ability, or rather inability, to have the vision and skills to make success with the talent he has... There've been subtle position shifts, scheme responsibilities asked of successful free agents when they arrive here different from what they're signed... As my friend would say, why are we beating round pegs into square holes, again? I'm not saying that's definitively what's happening, but they're been some subtle clues dropped in interviews that have given me pause to question more... |

Re: 2018 New Orleans Saints Training Camp
Take One: Competitive Practice ...At times when you get to this point of camp the grind and monotony of hitting the same players everyday can lead to lethargy. It hasn’t really happened with the Saints all that much. I can only think of one practice so far that lacked energy... Take Two: TommyLee Takes Over, Again Just when I thought Lewis was coming back down to earth a bit, he stepped up with an outstanding effort Saturday. First, he took an end around and made a cut in the open field for a nice gain. Then, He beat Marshon Lattimore on a double move during seven-on-seven. During two-minute, Drew Brees hit him in the end zone for a score. Take Three: Will Clapp holds his own When I noticed #64 in with the first team during team drills, I made a point to observe most of his reps. Playing both the left and right guard, the youngster more than held his own against a very active defensive front. There was one play, from the right when he went toe-to-toe with Sheldon Rankins. It was a quality rep on both sides. By Clapp not getting blown back he allowed Mark Ingram to spring it to the outside for good yardage. On a screen pass to Ingram, Clapp got to the second level and got just enough of Alex Anzalone to help spring Ingram again. On a separate rep against David Onyemata, Clapp looked to get beat initially but fought back to keep Onyemata from completely disrupting the play. Seventh round draft picks aren’t guaranteed anything, regardless of where they come from. But in Clapp’s case, he’s taking advantage of every opportunity he’s gotten and putting some quality tape together. Take Four: Marcus Williams shines Every practice Williams makes a play that stands out. He is always around the ball. On Saturday, in red zone, Williams took advantage of an overthrow by Brees in the end zone and picked it off. Brees praised him after practice even saying he has some the traits that Ed Reed had. Take Five: Other Observations
