Kind of a head scratcher that every year during the wrap-up it invariably comes up that we've got to get more athletic at the Mike backer...
So two years in a row, we sign free agent Mike linebackers who've had success, only to shift them outside - Klein to SAM, Davis to WILL... Get, applaud our linebacker versatility which minimizes loss with inevitable injuries and makes us less predictable in pre-snap reads... But you've got a lot of money committed there for the past two years to address the MIKE and then you shift?!? With emphasis on pass defense with nickel packages, you wonder if teams can't seem to make a commitment or devise a base flexible for most downs... |

We’ve really put an emphasis on getting guys who can play different positions and let us give multiple looks on defense. Heck, we could even see some 3-4 this season...

I believe by week #1 of the regular season, Davis will take over play calling duties @ MIKE. I'm more interested in how Dennis Allen will play Davis & Anzalone together in actual games. Assuming Anzalone stays healthy, that's real speed/range, athleticism at the position.
I can't speak for others, but Davis & Alex (assuming he is healthy) will become high quality starters in NO. Robertson, Klein & Teo are excellent depth. |

The manager needs to understand every position. It will take some time to learn the defenses we play. By game six he'll clearly be the leader - or not. We have several that can direct the traffic well there's no need to rush. Let him learn everything. It's nice to have the luxury to do that.

Way too early to tell how the depth chart will shape up. The personnel will change on a daily basis at linebacker.
