All the offensive skill positions at this point are down to battles for the bottom 5-7 of the 53 man roster. WR5/6, TE3/4, QB2/3, RB3/4. In the QB battle it's likely that the Saints will carry 3, with Hill playing Special Teams again, and Barrett going to the practice squad or being red shirted.

The bottom line though is that any veteran who doesn't play special teams need not bother to apply to play for the Saints this season. If you're not multiple/flexible in those last 5-7 slots, you won't be on the squad. The only exception to this may be Savage. And if Hill can demonstrate that he can tread water as QB2, not even then.

Good signing. It really elevates our entire receiving corps and weeds out the slower ones.

I like the idea of rolling out a 5-WR set with:

Thomas - 6’3”
Meredith - 6’3”
Floyd - 6’3”
Smith - 6’1”

And Kamara. I think it would be interesting.

Say it again, this is about getting the backup QBs some better talent so they can get a more accurate eval of their QBs Savage, Hill...

But Tate made an impression in the PR/KR duties, so he may want to put down another month's rent deposit so Kamara won't be the only capable returner...

Interesting for fantasy football maybe. But there are unanswered questions in real life.

#1 is what about Ted Ginn Jr? Ginn is the unquestioned WR2 on the squad. Also his dead cap number right now is $2.5 million, which would have to be paid whether he's a Saint or not. He's in the same situation as Floyd: veteran with somewhat limited special teams skills. But with a contract with guaranteed money with consequeces for him being released.

Next to that is the fact you are rolling out 3 guys who have been exposed to the offense for less than 3 months.

Finally while you have a bunch of big guys, who is really your speed guy?

I completely confuzzled as to how this would work. Ginn is faster. Ginn knows the offense. Ginn has a vibe with Brees. Ginn also can double as a PR/KR.

So what do you do as a GM in the real world?

Only way that even gets considered is if Tre Smith proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he can handle the deep threat duties. There's no way Payton goes into a season with a question mark at that position, it's too important to him. So, while I agree that on paper, or in a game of Madden that lineup looks impressive, it's also impractical right now. And keeping both Floyd and Ginn isn't really an option, due to the aforementioned lack of ST value.

BColeman isn't going to make it to the field. He was already competing for the WR5 spot. And he's not currently on the field. So there's no practice, no reps, no tape.
