The New Orleans Saints released wide receiver Brandon Coleman with a failed physical designation on Sunday (Aug. 5), according to a league source.

Coleman had not participated in training camp while on the active/physically unable to perform list with an undisclosed injury.

It was part of a busy day of transactions for the Saints, who also waived injured guard John Fullington, making room to sign former LSU safety Rickey Jefferson and tight end John Phillips.

Coleman signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers in 2014. He spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad but played in all 16 games the past three seasons.

His best season came in 2015, when he caught 30 passes for 454 yards and two touchdowns. In his three seasons with the Saints, Coleman accounted for 79 catches, 1,099 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Saints re-signed Coleman to a one-year deal this offseason, but also bolstered their receiver corps with the additions of Cameron Meredith in free agency and Tre'Quan Smith in the draft.

Well I wish him well wherever he goes. He never fulfilled his potential as a big receiver, but he was a helluva downhill blocker.

Well, I'm interested to hear the backstory when it makes its way to the internet. I'm sure he'll find another gig somewhere.

Re: Saints release Brandon Coleman amid a flurry of roster moves

Sean Payton leaves the door open for Saints to reunite with Brandon Coleman.
Released earlier in the day after failing a physical, wide receiver Brandon Coleman
was not present for a practice under the lights at Yulman Stadium with the
New Orleans Saints on Sunday night (Aug. 5).

But coach Sean Payton did not rule out a return for Coleman once he recovers from injuries to his neck and hip.

"He's got a little bit of time still in his rehab," Payton said. "He'll be able to go ahead and rehab and get healthy.
I would anticipate that it's not the last time we'll see him. He and I had a good visit today, we're all on the same page."

I will forever remember him as the receiver who had a clear run to the end zone and tripped over his own feet. Never was very impressed with him. I will give him props for being a good down the field blocker but we need ball catchers first and blocker second.

He was the laziest looking player(besides Fleener) I have seen at training camp. He was a good blocker and didn't drop the ball when he was wide open. That's something I guess.
