Cameron Meridith THURS It's On

He likely plays the whole game from what Peyton is saying. Pretty much judgement day for him. Going to be rough without MT and Kamara out there. He's going to have to fight hard to make the grabs.

It was in my butt. Here you go:

Saints coach Sean Payton said Cameron Meredith will receive "quite a bit of work" in Thursday's preseason finale against the Rams.

The Saints will rest the majority of their starters on Thursday but Meredith, who has struggled throughout the preseason, will not be getting the night off.

This is the **** I don't get about our strategy. Proposing new strategy...3rd and 4rth string plays play first, then you play the second string, 5 minutes left in the 4rth quarter send out all the starters so you can win the game. reverse the trend, get the victory

It’s not judgment day. It’s get him up to speed day. You think they signed a restricted free agent offer sheet to cut him before Week 1? Go watch the film on Cameron Meredith pre-injury.

I agree with this...coming off year long injury and learning new system.

I watched all of it. He's ok but that team sucks. Mostly garbage time Hurns stuff with better hurt WR's out. He filled the gap but coverage is not that strong when a team is getting smoked up and down the field. He will likely struggle this week but with MT and Kamara out there he should have enough space to make easy grabs.

Read that multiple times and I still fail to see where it indicates Meredith would be playing the whole game or where it mentions anything about any judgement on Meredith himself.

It appears you may have had more than this link stored away up that butt of yours.

And why exactly would you put your starters at risk to win a practice?

Let's not forget that preseason games are for evaluation. Winning or losing really doesn't matter except for guys on the bubble. And they are not starters.

Likely have a reading comprehension issue. Is there a junior college near you? Regardless:

1. He will be playing most of the game Thursday.
2. He will be playing a lot for evaluation.

3. Evaluation is a synonym for judging.

They’re evaluating his health and knowledge of the system. Meredith will be on this roster for a year at the very least.

You are apparently the one with the reading comprehension issue.

Here is the FULL text of the link:

Quote:

Saints coach Sean Payton said Cameron Meredith will receive "quite a bit of work" in Thursday's preseason finale against the Rams.

The Saints will rest the majority of their starters on Thursday but Meredith, who has struggled throughout the preseason, will not be getting the night off. His rust is understandable—Meredith is coming off a torn ACL that sidelined for all of 2017 and is still learning the intricacies of Payton's offense. However, the 25-year-old thinks he is finally on the right track. "I’m starting to come out and feel like myself," he said. He's been going as a late-round flyer in fantasy drafts this summer.
Now show me exactly where this FULL text states either of the following:

1. He will be playing most of the game Thursday.
- "quite a bit of work" is not equivalent to "most of the game"

2. He will be playing a lot for evaluation.
- I'm still looking for the word "evaluation" or "judgement" or even any of the several synonyms that you posted.

Now exactly who has the problem with comprehension?

Let's just agree we hope he does not drop anymore passes Thursday and maybe have at least one catch, maybe two and stays healthy.

I may even change the title to "evaluation day" for you.

Yeah, I know he's been hurt or whatever, but I really don't have much confidence this guy is gonna be all that he's been hyped up to be. I hope he changes my mind. But I think Payton keeps Carr around for insurance. I haven't seen much about Meredith doing anything but dropping passes.

Meredith is going to take time...but let's not forget we knew this was a risk. He had one good season and was undrafted. Right now he seems to be still finding his way back from the injury while learning a new system. Maybe it pans out...maybe not. We will see

Screw you. You act like if it isn’t written in an article online it’s not true. Really smart seeing as a lot of articles on the internet are false or taylored. I hope you don’t get your political information based solely on what you read on the web.

He claimed that Payton said Meredith was going to play most all of the game and that it was a final judgement of sorts. "Quite a bit of work" could entail a couple of quarters when talking about the preseason. But, I was just asking for a source where Payton actually said what Beastmode claimed. I was already aware of the link he finally did add.

Re: Cameron Meridith THURS It's On

I believe Meredith is one of the worst ranked PFF performers in the preseason. He has yet to catch a single pass but has 2 drops credited to him. He might have been decent before the injury, but to be honest, that doesn't matter. Currently, based purely on performance Meredith should be getting cut.

I think this is accurate. Clearly we won't due to the investment, but yeah he hasn't looked great by any means

Re: Cameron Meridith THURS It's On

He's coming back from a major injury to two ligaments. He's rusty. He's in a new system. He's been limited in practice.

I, for one, am willing to give time until he's been in the system receiving repeated quality snaps before I pass judgement on him.

Based on that theory, you could also add in AJ Klein & Ted Ginn Jr ... but neither of which are probably getting the tap (cut). That is why I don't read PFF as the gospel. Meredith is coming back from an ACL tear. He wasn't even supposed to be back by now.

Question for the nayayers ...

What are/were your realistic expectations on a player coming off a major knee tear after 11 months of rehab in a new/complex style of offense that requires precision route running? He's caught over 70% of his passes thrown to him over his young career with lousy QB play in Chicago.

The NFL season is brutal. I'd much have a guy with ability & high ceiling to take his time coming back. The NFL is not a sprint but a marathon.

I have 0 confidence in Merideth and based on what Payton has said about the play at WR as a whole I don’t think he makes the cut. Outside of Thomas nobody is really lighting it up. I have a feeling Payton is running out of patience and isn’t going to be comfortable waisting a spot on a player coming off injury who hasn’t shown squat in preseason. Makes IR with return at best.

Meredith is on a 2 year deal. Putting him on IR would be a dumb move (unless he's truly a set back/which doesn't appear so). Sitting him on the bench for yet another season is not going to help him do that. But he needs to stay off IR so he can practice. That is important for a player coming off a ACL tear.

Let the man get back to game speed before throwing out pitch forks & stones.

Barry from MS 08-29-2018 01:15 PM

Re: Cameron Meridith THURS It's On

Honestly, Meredith is really a nonfactor on this offense with the immergence of Smith & with Carr continuing to improve on an offense that already has both MT & Kamara.

Great for depth, but he shouldn't even be considered a #2 or #3 WR option. Can we stash him on PUP & bring him back later this season so he can continue to build on "the best shape of his life" in the meantime?

His play doesn't show he's 100% physically and/or mentally.

This coming from the guy that lost $20 to me because of being 100% positive that Drew Brees wasn't going to be on the Saints roster this season.
