Observations from the Saints first game loss to Tampa Bay

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I don't think this is a throw away. Look at the preseason and how bad we we're against the run. Our d tackles are horrendous. I'm in DRP and did not even see the game but I can almost guarantee ...

I don't think this is a throw away. Look at the preseason and how bad we we're against the run. Our d tackles are horrendous. I'm in DRP and did not even see the game but I can almost guarantee that omata, Shankins, and Davidson didn't do much of anything. I said at the close of last season our biggest need was d tackle. I may be wrong but from the sounds of Fitz's numbers we did not get an ounce of pressure

Zero pressure. Surprisingly our run D wasn’t too bad. We got killed by the big play through the air.

Yes, we were killed by the pass but our run defense was still bad. Look at the average per play by their RB. Look at our LBs not making tackles or doing it well down the field. Same as the last couple years.

Well Omata obviously didn't get the memo that you can't drive the QB into the ground.

Dude I watched that play. It's ridiculous. That hit was clean last year.

Yep. As of this year you aren't allowed to come down with your full weight on the QB. You have to roll off to the side of them as you come down. Against bigger QB's this is going to really suck. I expect a lot more missed sacks as a result.

I call it the Aaron Rodgers Rule...and it’s going to suck because the QBs that fight for every yard and are elusive will break out of a lot of sacks because defensive players will be scared they are going to get a flag...

Absolutely correct but this yr it is way different. And until these fools (not just our team) get it through there thick heads, we are gonna see a lot of penalties like this. Driving the QB to the ground like he did Fitz, is so uncalled for. You don't have to body slam them, ESPECIALLY after he has already thrown the ball. This is not rocket science.
