NFL admits Marcus Davenport foul was a mistake
Marcus Davenport had his NFL debut on Sunday for the New Orleans Saints, and while the rookie defensive end is technically on the books for committing a roughing the passer penalty in the game, the league now admits that it didn’t even happen. National Football League vice president of officiating Al Riveron said that Davenport was wrongly called for illegally hitting Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Saints should not have been docked 15 yards as a result. Too little, too late perhaps for Saints fans, who watched their team get drubbed by a division rival to start a season that many analysts say should result in the team winning their second Super Bowl.
